When it comes to picking the right vehicle for your teen, it’s all about instilling confidence. Teens are the most at-risk group of drivers but the right car can help ensure more safety and security. The ideal car for young drivers is high-quality, reliable, and fitted with the right technology of course. Speaking of this, one of the most ideal used cars for teens is the 2016 Buick LaCrosse.

What makes the 2016 Buick LaCrosse a good car?

The 2016 LaCrosse is extremely well-rounded and affordable. It has one of the highest reliability scores in the large sedan class and a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The LaCrosse also earned a supreme safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as well as a top dependability score from J.D. Power.

Standard safety features on the 2016 LaCrosse include General Motor’s Onstar product. Onstar gives your teen added support with navigation, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle help, and remote door unlocking. Rearview cameras are standard on each LaCrosse trim level.

There are also two optional Driver Confidence packages available on the base models. The first option includes upgraded headlights, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure, and rear-cross traffic alerts. With the second Driver Confidence package option, you get the premium “Safety Alert Seat” which vibrates to notify drivers of possible concerns.

Right now, the cost of a 2016 LaCrosse ranges from $14,466 to $20,597.

Performance

Some say that the 2016 LaCrosse’s standard 3.6-liter V6 engine is dull, but a young driver only needs so much power. The V6 generates a 304-horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque which makes for a comfortable ride. Front-wheel drive comes standard but all-wheel drive is available on the higher trim levels. The LaCrosse gets a combined 22 mpg.

Comfort

Along with exceptional safety ratings, the LaCrosse comes with plenty of comforts. The car cabin is very spacious, even for adults. Outside noise on the road is also not a problem in this quiet cabin which also contributes to this sedan’s comfort level and overall safety. In general, the cabin is striking and durable. The seats are really supportive and accomodating and the ample legroom is an added benefit.

Infotainment

In-car electronics are extremely important on newer models. With teens especially, you want to make sure that infotainment features are helpful and not distracting. Fortunately, the infotainment offerings in the 2016 LaCrosse are pretty intuitive. There’s an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity, plus dual USB ports. Wifi and 4G connectivity are also available. More advanced options are available on the higher trim levels.

What are the downsides?

The most notable 2016 LaCrosse downside is the small trunk space. This is due to the extremely large cabin. Rearview visibility may also be a challenge for some, but the driver assist aids can help with that. If a hybrid model is a contender for your family, it is worth mentioning that the hybrid version of the 2016 LaCrosse is known to be particularly slow.
