As we pass the middle of the 2022 calendar year, 2023 model year vehicles are just around the corner. That includes the 2023 GMC Yukon. Is the new version of the large SUV worth waiting for? What’s new in 2023?
Should you wait for a 2023 GMC Yukon?
If you’re waiting for a 2023 GMC Yukon in hopes of brand new designs and features, stop waiting. None of that is coming, and there isn’t a redesign ready just yet. The new Yukon remains a part of the same generation as the previous model year. There are a few noticeable changes, but nothing will be life-changing for most buyers. Moreover, if you’re ready to buy a Yukon, just buy a 2022 model year, as not much will be different if you wait.
What’s new with the 2023 Yukon?
According to Car and Driver, only a few significant changes are coming to the 2023 GMC Yukon. First, a brand new trim level, Denali Ultimate, enters the lineup for a high price. Starting at $95,545, the Denali Ultimate adds fancier Alpine Umber leather upholstery, 16-way power adjustable front seats with massage, open-pore wood trim, an 18-speaker Bose sound system, and much more. In addition, it comes with 22-inch wheels and darkened chrome trim on the exterior.
Finally, GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system is now available as an option throughout the Yukon lineup. Only available for use on highways, Super Cruise is available for many General Motors models. It’s a competitor to features like Self-Driving from Tesla, but not quite as complex yet. Super Crusie is also available on Chevy, Cadillac, and other models.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon worth buying?
Since it isn’t worth waiting for the 2023 Yukon, should you purchase the current model year version? Car and Driver gave the large SUV an 8.5 out of 10 overall. Although it isn’t the best in its class, it’s near the top of the large SUV segment. For C/D, Yukon highs include how roomy it is in all three rows, the many engine options, and the smooth ride quality. C/D even went as far as to call the Yukon an excellent minivan replacement, providing all the space to haul people and cargo at once.
Furthermore, C/D recommends buying the second cheapest trim level, the Yukon SLT. For $63,895, it provides many more features than the base model without getting as expensive as the AT4 or Denali. “The mid-range model comes packed with features that most buyers are looking for, including leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, 20-inch wheels, a power rear liftgate, and a suite of driver-assistance features,” C/D added to its recommendation.
Don’t wait for the new Yukon
In conclusion, it isn’t worth waiting for the 2023 GMC Yukon. Almost nothing about the large SUV is changing for the new model year. Unfortunately, the Denali Ultimate trims contain features already available but for a much higher price. We’re still getting the same design and features as the 2022 model. As a result, those interested in a Yukon can pull the trigger now, without fear of missing out on anything significant for 2023.
