The 2022 GMC Terrain is a refreshed compact SUV with plenty of options. Although it comes with tons of excellent features, does it provide a lot of value? Those looking to get the most bang for their buck might be hesitant to purchase the GMC model. It’s very similar to the Chevy Equinox but a lot more expensive. Additionally, there’s an off-road model, the Terrain AT4, and the luxurious Terrain Denali model. Is the 2022 GMC Terrain worth the price?

How much is the 2022 GMC Terrain?

The 2022 GMC Terrain SUV comes in off-road AT4, Denali, and other trims. Are the different models worth the price?

According to CarBuzz, the 2022 GMC Terrain comes in four different trim levels. Starting with the base SLE model, it costs $27,900. Although it doesn’t get outrageously expensive, the higher trim levels are much less affordable. However, with models like the AT4 off-road trim and Denali, which is synonymous with luxury, it could be worth the upgrade.

The top two trim levels each come with the same standard engine as the bottom trims, however, all-wheel drive is standard. AWD is available for the SLE and SLT trims, but costs extra. Along with the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, every Terrain comes with heated mirrors, LED lighting, a 7-inch infotainment screen, onboard Wi-Fi capability, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and more.

SLE$27,900
SLT$31,900
AT4$34,000
Denali$36,600

The Terrain AT4 off-road model is disappointing

For $34,000, customers get the off-road version of the 2022 GMC Terrain. On top of a more rugged look, it comes with an underbody skid plate and other unique styling cues. That’s it. Unfortunately, the Terrain AT4 is a far cry from a capable off-roader. With barely any upgrades from the SLT trim, we’d recommend hopping right by the AT4 model to the range-topping Denali. For just a few thousand more, buyers get far more value.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain Denali worth it?

Not everyone will choose to pay for the 2022 GMC Terrain Denali. It’s way more expensive than the $27,900 base model, so we can’t blame you. However, it provides a lot of bang for your buck. As with most GMC models wearing the Denali nameplate, it’s a luxury vehicle at a decently low price. Upgrading from the AT4 trim grants owners a lot more equipment.

For $36,600, buyers gain an integrated navigation system, Bose premium audio and HD radio, a wireless charging pad, and an upgraded driver information display. On top of those items, you’ll also receive a head-up display, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a safety alert seat. Each of these items adds value in convenience, comfort, and safety that are vital to any SUV owner.

Lastly, only the Denali trim can be outfitted with ventilated front seats for an added fee. However, other items like a sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view monitor are available as extras for any Terrain trim level. We love that features like these are available across the board, meaning customers can pay for what they want and aren’t stuck paying for the Denali or AT4 models for one or two desirable features.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain worth the price?

In conclusion, most versions of the 2022 GMC Terrain are worth the price. However, the AT4 off-road model does not provide as much value as other trims. Opt for the base SLE or SLT trims for a significant number of features, technology, and safety capability at a low price. Alternatively, those who can spend more should hop right to the top. Buying the fully-loaded Terrain Denali offers a lot of value in tech, comfort, safety upgrades, and the standard all-wheel drive.
