Are you considering buying a 2022 Chevy Suburban? The full-size SUV has something for everyone. The lineup consists of models offering various features for off-roading, smooth driving, or a downright luxurious experience. Does the Suburban fall into the non-luxury category with other Chevrolet models? Is being a luxury entirely about price, or do the many standard features make the 2022 Chevy Suburban a genuine luxury SUV?

One clear indicator of a luxury model is usually the price. According to Edmunds, the 2022 Chevy Suburban’s starting price is $54,095, which seems low for a luxury vehicle. Compared to the Cadillac Escalade, which starts at $79,795, the base model price is wildly affordable. Fortunately, the rest of the lineup is the same. Even the most expensive High Country trim is just $74,395, far lower than the starting price of Cadillac’s full-size SUV. Does the Suburban feel luxurious in its highest trims?

Is the Suburban Premier a luxury SUV?

First, the second-most expensive version of the 2022 Chevy Suburban is the Premier trim. It starts a $67,495, which is closer to the starting price of many luxury full-size SUVs. Every version of the Chevrolet model uses the same 5.3-liter V8 except the High Country. It makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The High Country standard engine is optional on the RST, Z71, and Premier trims, a 6.2-liter V8 good for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. In addition to lower model features, the Premier trim is decked-out with more.

For example, magnetically-controlled shock absorbers are standard, and they offer better ride and handling capabilities. Next, the Premier trim gets a digital instrument panel, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, heated/ventilated front seats, and blind-spot monitoring. Additionally, second-row bucket seats and a power-folding third-row seat enter the Suburban at this trim. Are these features enough to call the Premier trim a luxury SUV?

What’s better about the Suburban High Country compared to the Premier trim? For $7,000 more, every High Country comes with a standard 420 hp 6.2-liter V8 engine. More power is always costly, so it’s no surprise the optional engine makes it more expensive. Next, a surround-view camera system, a heads-up display, and a rear pedestrian alert system are standard. Finally, all High Country trims get a unique grille with bronze accents not found on any other version of the 2022 Chevy Suburban.

Lastly, options available to most trims make the Surbuan a more luxurious option. For example, an air suspension, traffic-adaptive cruise control, a rear entertainment system, and a panoramic sunroof are all available. Adding options can easily boost the price of a High Country model into the $80,000 range.

Is the 2022 Chevy Suburban a full-size luxury SUV?

In conclusion, some versions of the 2022 Chevy Suburban are luxury SUVs. The Premier and High Country trims aren’t as decked-out with amenities as a $100,000 Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator, but they’re well-equipped. You’ll have to look elsewhere if you’re looking for posh, upscale features like massaging seats and a cooled center console. But for a luxurious interior with many features that are enough for most buyers, the highest 2022 Chevy Suburban trims get the job done.
