New tech, new style, new looks, but a not quite right feeling greet you when you step inside the 2022 Infiniti QX80 SUV. This three-row luxury SUV is attractive, with signature styling and features you only find from this brand. You’ll see a large cabin adorned in two-tone leather that makes you smile as you approach, and you’ll notice several impressive technology upgrades that bring this decade-old platform to the modern day. The only problem: something seems off.

What seems off about the 2022 Infiniti QX80 interior?

Looking around the cabin of this large SUV, you see a new high-resolution touchscreen, attractive plastic trim items, and a relatively simple layout, as described by Autoblog.com. There’s a wireless phone charging pad, a USB-C port, and wireless Apple CarPlay to make sure iPhone users can leave their cord at home, but something isn’t quite right.

The overall dashboard shape and style is of flowing curves and rounded shapes, but the addition of advanced technology brings sharp corners and straight lines. This isn’t the way design is supposed to work in a vehicle. There’s no cohesiveness to the look of this front area, making the QX80 appear to be a conglomeration of two different vehicles.

Don’t get us wrong, functionality in this Infiniti SUV is excellent

Everything this brand adds to the QX80 works great, which is important. The dual-screen layout of the infotainment center is gone, replaced by a more acceptable large single screen, and the supported system is quick and precise. A few physical knobs and buttons remain in the Infiniti QX80, allowing easier functionality of some of the important features you need to adjust during your drive.

Even though everything works correctly, doesn’t mean it looks right, appealing, or like it belongs in this SUV.

Getting away from the tech of this three-row SUV

When we step back from the tech features to look at some of the other items found in the QX80 luxury SUV, we see a black wood rim around the steering wheel. This looks fancy and at home, but it can make gripping the wheel tricky, especially when wearing gloves on a cold day or when your hands are sweaty on a hot day. The steering-wheel functions for the audio system are difficult to reach, which means you might choose to reach over to the volume knob in the center of the dash, defeating the purpose of this item altogether.

Seating for taller people is just fin, but shorter occupants will have a hard time with the high seating positions in the Infiniti QX80. In fact, the seats are so high that it’s difficult to use the armrests unless you’re in the lowest possible position. If you have the quilted seats, they look nice but are some of the flattest and widest in the industry.

How will rear passengers feel about the QX80?

At first glance, the second-row looks like a home run. A large console separates the captain’s chairs with ample storage and a pair of cupholders. There’s a USB port, heated seats, and a climate zone for this middle row. This might be the best place to sit in this SUV.

Unfortunately, the third row of seats doesn’t offer the same qualities as the middle row. If you relegate adults or teenagers to the rear, you’re punishing them brutally. This row is only suitable for small children and not for adults.

Still, considering the Infiniti QX80? How about some pros and cons?

According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2022 Infiniti QX80 luxury SUV’s pros and cons are:

Pros

  • Affordable pricing for is class (starting at $70,600 ranging to $84,850)
  • Standard V8 tows up to 8,500 pounds
  • Luxurious interior
  • Lots of cargo room

As you can see we agree with others who have reviewed this SUV.

Should you buy the QX80?

If you’re hellbent on your vehicle wearing the Infiniti badge, go ahead and buy the QX80. This SUV does have many redeeming qualities, even though we haven’t discussed them today. On the other hand, if you want the tech features offered in a large SUV that brings you many of the same qualities, check out the Nissan Armada. You’ll spend a lot less (Armada starts at $48,900 and tops out at $70,000), and you’ll have the modern items you want in your three-row SUV.
