Indiana man has several charges after causing a death, hitting a pedestrian, and leading police on a dangerous chase while under the influence
Thanks to some drivers, the road can be a very dangerous place. Of course, this is especially the case for pedestrians. Recently, an Indianapolis man was sentenced after hitting a person with his car and evading a traffic stop. Of course, justice is a couple of years late, but at least one dangerous driver is off the road.
Not only did he evade a traffic stop, but this man ran over a pedestrian
According to Fox 59, the incident with the driver in question, Jose Lopez, happened on October 1, 2022. Police officers say they saw his silver Pontiac hit a pedestrian at around 3 a.m. However, he continued to drive after the accident, and the police tried to make a traffic stop. Sadly, like many people, he ran from the police, leading them on a dangerous chase at that late hour.
Of course, the police officers continued to try to make the traffic stop, but the driver refused to give up. Eventually, he rear-ended a Mazda vehicle at a red light. Sadly, this pushed the Mazda through the intersection and caused it to catch fire. First responders were able to get two of the three occupants out of the vehicle. However, the third person passed away.
Now, Jose has gone to court more than two years after the attempted traffic stop and carnage he caused. He pled guilty to one count of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, two counts of causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and one count of leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury crash. He got ten charges, but six were dropped because he took a plea deal. Notably, he had been charged with driving under the influence before the 2022 accident.
Currently, he has 202 days of jail credit and will have 606 days removed from his sentence due to time served.
