Hyundai Recalls Nearly 300,000 New Models For Seat Belt Anchors That Could Detach

That sleek new Hyundai in your driveway could be hiding a serious safety issue. Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall for 294,128 vehicles in the U.S. because the front seat belt anchors could detach in a crash. This defect significantly increases the risk of injury by failing to properly restrain passengers during an impact.

Affected Hyundai and Genesis Models

The recall, filed under NHTSA campaign number 26V218000, covers some of the automaker’s newest and most popular models. The affected vehicles include the 2023–2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6, 2024–2026 Hyundai Santa Fe, and 2024-2026 Santa Fe Hybrid. The recall also extends to Hyundai’s luxury brand, affecting 2023–2026 Genesis G90 models.

The Safety Defect

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem lies with the driver and passenger seat belt anchors. A detached anchor can’t hold an occupant securely, effectively rendering the seat belt useless in a collision. The consequence is a severe increase in the risk of injury.

What Owners Should Do

Dealers will inspect the seat belt anchors and either reinforce or replace them as needed, completely free of charge. Hyundai plans to begin mailing official notification letters to owners on June 5, 2026. However, you can check if your vehicle is included in the recall immediately by visiting the NHTSA’s website and entering your Vehicle Identification Number.
