The Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the most exciting electric SUVs on the market. The Ioniq 5 recently won the World Car of the Year award. Is the Ioniq 5 faster than the Mach-E?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an electric SUV with the spirit of a muscle car

The Ford Mustang Mach-E may not look like a muscle car, but it certainly has the spirit of a muscle car. The Mach-E makes 266 horsepower. It goes from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds. The Mach-E GT goes from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. The GT trim makes 459 horsepower. It is extremely quick. The Mach-E GT starts at $59,900.

Some consumers were skeptical of the Mach-E when it was first unveiled. Today, it has become one of the most popular electric SUVs because of its bold exterior styling, spacious interior, and engaging driving dynamics. The Mach-E’s quickness is part of its overall appeal. It’s a spinoff of the Mustang for a reason. It was the Electric Vehicle of the Year in 2021.

Ford wanted to prove that an EV could have the power of a muscle car. The brand succeeded, but is there an EV even quicker than the Mach-E? How does the World Car of the Year award recipient match up to the Mach-E when it comes to speed and acceleration?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5’s speed isn’t its strong point

The 2022 Hyundai 5 is many things. Exceptionally quick is not one of those things. The base model Ioniq 5 makes just 168 horsepower with the standard range battery. The most powerful model makes 320 horsepower.

According to MotorTrend, the Ioniq 5 Limited AWD goes from 0-60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. The electric SUV’s final trim level is pretty darn quick, but it’s no Mustang Mach-E GT.

The Ioniq 5 truly shines when it comes to cabin space, value, and driving experience. It’s the World Car of the Year because it provides a quiet, smooth ride. It’s also affordable and comes in several different trim levels offering different degrees of comfort. Like most Hyundai final trim levels, the Ioniq 5’s final trim makes the electric SUV seem like a luxury vehicle.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is no speed demon, but it isn’t boring to drive in the least. Hyundai’s electric SUV model is very engaging. Is the World Car of the Year truly a better buy than the quicker Ford Mustang Mach-E?

Both the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are popular electric SUVs. They have plenty to offer but ultimately have two very different design languages. The Mach-E is more expensive. Its exterior and design aesthetic are more aggressive. It is marketed to drivers that want an electric SUV with muscle car power.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a more affordable, practical choice for the average American driver. It’s the World Car of the Year because it’s more likely to satisfy the average consumer’s needs than the Mach-E. Sure, Ford’s EV is exciting, but value often beats excitement in automobile sales.

Take the Toyota RAV4, for example. The RAV4 isn’t the most exciting SUV in its segment, but it is the most popular. Is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 going to have a huge sales year?
