Weeks after Hyundai announced a recall of 68,500 units of the 2026 Palisade due to a problem with the powered seat, the South Korean manufacturer has issued another recall related to the third-row driver-side seat belt assemblies.
The internal wiring in the third-row driver-side seat belt assembly is prone to damage when passengers pull on the buckle, triggering a warning light that indicates a false latch.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed the problem in the recall report. It stated:
“The internal wiring within the 3rd-row lefthand (driverside) seat belt buckles may become damaged due to excessive tension applied when the buckle is pulled. Damage to the buckle wiring can prevent detection of the seat belt latch status for the 3rdrow driver-side seating position.”

Only the Limited and Calligraphy variants of the Palisade have been affected by this problem, bringing the total to 46,787 units of the Hyundai SUV.
Hyundai to Install a Wiring Harness Extension on the Palisade
Hyundai first got to know of the problem in January this year, prompting it to launch an investigation. The brand has come across five cases related to the problem. At this stage, it is unaware of incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to the issue.
Hyundai’s solution to the problem will be to install a wiring harness extension, which is longer and reduces tension. If necessary, the seat belt buckle assembly will also be replaced. The NHTSA report stated:
“All owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail with instructions to bring their vehicle to a Hyundai dealer for installation of a wiring harness extension remedy and, if necessary, replacement of the seat belt buckle assembly.
“This remedy will be offered at no cost to owners for all affected vehicles, regardless of whether the affected vehicles are still covered under Hyundai’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Additionally, Hyundai will provide owners of affected vehicles reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred to obtain remedy for the recall condition in accordance with the reimbursement plan submitted to NHTSA on March 2, 2026.”
MotorBiscuit reported the earlier recall of the Palisade due to a problem with the second- and third-row powered seat assemblies that may not respond to contact with an occupant during the activation of certain functions.
However, Hyundai recently reported four additional injuries and one death related to the problem, forcing it to halt sales of the SUV. The problem has led to a total of 17 incidents.
