The Hydrogen-Powered Toyota Tacoma Keeps You Hydrated
Yes, you read that correctly, there is a hydrogen-powered Toyota Tacoma. It’s only a concept for now. However, based on reaction gathered at SEMA, this silent truck with 547 hp could become a reality as it provides drinkable water.
The hydrogen-powered Toyota Tacoam deserves a chance
I’m aware that people have some pretty negative reactions to hydrogen-powered vehicles. But interest in electric vehicles is declining. Don’t hate on Toyota for experimenting with other green possibilities.
The Tacoma H2 Overlander Concept is a hydrogen-powered Toyota Tacoma, but it’s only an experiment at the moment. Remember, it might not make it to production, but it’s still cool to think about.
Toyota Racing Development (TRD) built a clean and quiet adventure rig. It rides on the TNGA-F chassis. The gas engine is replaced with the second-generation hydrogen fuel cell stack from the Toyota Mirai.
The fuel cell design generates electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen. Water vapor is the only byproduct; no emissions. Plus, the TRD exhaust water recovery system collects and filters the distilled water for personal use.
This setup is pairs two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack to power each wheel. According to Toyota, it provides 547 hp and has a range of 300 miles that is refilled in roughly five minutes.
The instant torque is routed through a front limited slip differential and rear electronic locking differential. Other upgrades include a TRD billet long-travel kit with heavy-duty, high-performance Ford 2.5 Performance Elite Series shocks.
The exterior features recycled carbon-fiber aero panels, heavy-duty, off-road bumpers, integrated recovery points, a winch, tiedowns, and a recovery board storage system. Front light bars, fog lights, and camping lighting complete its look.
