Which hybrid SUV will save you the most money on gas?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander hybrid will save you more money on fuel than any other hybrid SUV. Consumer Reports ran the numbers. It calculated the added cost of buying a hybrid and crunched the numbers to see how much the improved fuel economy saved you in fuel. Those two numbers together show the most wallet-friendly vehicle.

Consumer Reports found that after all the calculations, the Toyota Highlander hybrid could save as much as $1,000 bucks at the pump over a year. Aside from just the fuel savings, the Toyota Highlander is a great choice for any family that needs a little space, reliability, and a (mostly) go-anywhere vehicle. The hybrid Highlander gets 32 mpg compared to the standard V6, which gets 22 mpg.

The only downside of these super-efficient hybrid vehicles is that the tiny engines make a terrible noise when strained, and they are slow.

None other than the 2022 Honda Accord hybrid, of course. The Accord is steadfast in delivering drivers exactly what they need, even if it isn’t always what they want. But in these weird times, driving an efficient car is what we all need.

The Honda Accord hybrid will pay back the added cost of the hybrid trim within two years. Consumer Reports tested the Accord Hybrid EX and got 47 mpg overall. The added cost of the hybrid was $1,435 more than a comparable gas-only EX that got only 31 mpg overall. Owners will save around $660 a year at the pump.

‘There’s Never Been a Better Time to Buy a Hybrid’ Says Consumer Reports

The hybrid pickup trucks are all the rage right now. These trucks can get phenomenal power and better gas mileage. However, the truck that scored the highest savings on gas isn’t all that powerful. If you want to save at the pump with a pickup truck, you have to go with the 2022 Ford Maverick. This marks the first pickup truck to ever hit the market with a hybrid powertrain as standard.

It can drive on electric power, at least at low speeds, and CR recorded an excellent 37 mpg overall. Buying the hybrid Maverick will save you $1,000 off the top because the non-hybrid version costs $1,000 more. The hybrid pickup truck will save you around $1,000 a year on fuel on top of the lower cost. I think it’s safe to call this one a no-brainer.

Should you get a hybrid or an electric car?

Hybrid tech is a much more stable place than full EV tech is at the moment. This isn’t to say that EVs won’t surpass hybrids one day. They surely can and very well might. However, as it stands, we still are woefully underserved on EV charges in America. And although driving range is getting better, it is still a source of anxiety for many drivers.

Hybrid tech is really coming into its own. Now is the time for the hybrid. Maybe the EV will have its day soon.
