For years, Formula 1: Drive to Survive was a Netflix-only docuseries. Ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season, that changes, as long as you live in the United States. The newest season of the series is now available on Apple TV as well as Netflix, giving fans another way to binge the behind-the-scenes drama before the lights go out in Melbourne later this week.

In the US, Drive to Survive Season 8 is streaming on Apple TV starting the same release date as Netflix, 27 February, 2026.

This is the first time the show has been carried in the US by a streaming service other than Netflix, and it arrives right as Apple begins its first season as the official broadcaster of F1 for the US market.

Step-by-step: How to Watch Drive to Survive on Apple TV

1. Make sure you’re in the right country

This Apple TV availability is US-only. Netflix remains the global home for the series elsewhere in the world. If you’re in the UK, for example, you’ll still be watching on Netflix.

2. Open the Apple TV app (or the Apple TV website)

You can watch via:

  • The Apple TV app on iPhone/iPad/Mac/Apple TV devices
  • Smart TVs and streaming sticks that support the Apple TV app
  • A browser on Apple’s TV site

Apple’s listing for the show is live under the title “Formula 1: Drive to Survive.”

3. Subscribe (or use the free trial)

Apple’s show page currently promotes: 7 days free, then $12.99/month (US pricing shown on the listing)

4. Search and press play

On the Apple TV listing, you’ll see Season 8 as “New,” with Apple describing it as covering Formula 1’s 75th year and a three-way title fight narrative.

What You Need to Know Before You Watch

  • It’s still on Netflix. Apple TV doesn’t replace Netflix. In the US, Season 8 is available on both services at launch.
  • Season 8 is about 2025 but will introduce you to the 2026 season.
  • The new season covers key storylines from the 2025 F1 season, including Lando Norris’ first championship win, Christian Horner leaving the championship and the rookies introduced that season.
  • This is part of a wider Apple–F1 moment in the US: Apple becomes the exclusive US broadcaster for the 2026 F1 season, with coverage spanning the full race weekend (practice, qualifying, and Grands Prix) for subscribers.

Can You Watch Drive to Survive on Apple TV Without Apple Devices?

Yes. You don’t need an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV box to watch Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Apple TV in the US.

You can stream it through the Apple TV app on many non-Apple platforms, including:

  • Smart TVs that support the Apple TV app
  • Streaming sticks/boxes that support the Apple TV app
  • Game consoles (where the Apple TV app is available)
  • Any modern web browser via Apple’s TV site, if you’d rather watch on a laptop or desktop

If you can install or open the Apple TV app, you can search for Formula 1: Drive to Survive and watch from there.

What You Need to Know About Season 8 (Spoiler-Free)

Season 8 focuses on the 2025 season. It doesn’t cover everything on a race-by-race basis, but it does cover what Netflix has deemed to be the most important storylines of the year.

One storyline revolves around the several rookies that joined for the year and how they dealt with the pressure of the championship. A second story is about how quickly some teams turn on their drivers when the expected results don’t follow. Jack Doohan’s short run at Alpine under the leadership of Flavio Briatore is a strong talking point, as is Liam Lawson’s short-lived time at Red Bull.

As you’d expect, McLaren is a focus of the season as drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are given the green light to compete, with team orders (or the lack thereof), being a huge talking point for fans.
