Although they both come from the same parent company and offer many similar features, the Genesis G70 and the Kia Stinger do differ in a few key areas. Ranked as the No. 1 Luxury Small Car on U.S. News, the 2020 Genesis G70 is particularly notable for its safety, reliability, and engine strength. However, the similarities between the two vehicles might make it challenging for shoppers to decide which one they’d rather bring home. With that in mind, what exactly do these luxury sedans have to offer?

What you’ll get with the Genesis G70

Depending on the trim, the Genesis G70 gets between 252 and 365 hp. Its fuel economy is one of its weaknesses — it gets around 22 miles per gallon in the city, and 30 on the highway. It also struggles slightly with size, as U.S. News reports that it has a small trunk and cramped, uncomfortable back seat.

Other than those issues, though, the G70 has received glowing reviews. In particular, its impressive list of standard safety features sets this vehicle apart: backup cameras, power steering, cross-traffic alerts, and lane-keeping assist are just a few of the features you’ll get on the base model Genesis G70. Additionally, the 2020 models offer two new options. Manual transmission models feature upgraded Brembo brakes, and all models offer an optional power trunk.

This luxury sedan also boasts a strong 2.0-liter engine, which provides rapid acceleration and a comfortable driving experience. It handles well, and it features an attractive interior that matches its price point.

What you’ll get with the Kia Stinger

Ranking as the No. 3 Luxury Small Car on U.S. News, the 2020 Kia Stinger lags just slightly behind the Genesis G70. It gets between 255 and 365 hp, and, like the G70, its fuel economy is slightly below average — it ranges from 22 miles per gallon in the city to 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

Other than simplified trim levels, the Stinger doesn’t have much new to offer in the 2020 model. It does come with quite a few standard features, including rear parking aid, keyless start, and power steering. U.S. News also reports that the Stinger has an intuitive infotainment system and a spacious cabin.

Where does the Genesis G70 excel?

Honestly, it’s hard to go wrong with either one of these well-reviewed luxury sedans — both have great standard features, handle nicely, and boast generous 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranties that set them apart from their competitors. Even so, the Genesis G70 has a slight edge over the Kia Stinger.

Perhaps the most important difference between the two vehicles is their safety and reliability ratings. The G70 has a perfect five-star predicted reliability rating, while the Stinger trails slightly behind with four stars. The G70 also has a perfect safety score from U.S. News. In fact, the G70 outranks the Stinger in every category except interior comfort.

Although they both have an impressive list of standard features, the Genesis G70 also boasts quite a few that the Kia Stinger doesn’t have: adaptive cruise control, remote engine start, universal garage door opener, and lane-keeping assist. These small touches help set the G70 apart and may make it the more desirable choice for anyone torn between the two similar vehicles.

While it’s only in its second year of production, the Genesis G70 is making a name for itself as a comfortable, reliable, and powerful luxury vehicle. Its impressive suite of safety features gives it a boost above the competition, making it well worth considering if you’re on the market for a small luxury sedan.
