But how safe is the Genesis G90?

The 2020 Genesis G90’s safety features

According to Consumer Reports, the 2020 Genesis G90 comes with a wonderful slate of standard active safety features. You’d have to pay thousands to get many of these features like adaptive cruise control standard with other luxury brands.

The forward collision warning with automatic-emergency braking and pedestrian detection provide three levels of alerts. When things are critical, the system pre-charges the brakes enabling the driver to stop the car with the shortest possible distance. If there’s no driver action, automatic emergency braking kicks in. You get automatic pedestrian detection with braking between 5 mph and 45 mph.

At speeds over 40 mph, the lane departure warning works with lane-keeping assistance. For long road trips, it’s a winning pair because they help keep the car in its lane through steering wheel adjustments. Blind-spot monitoring watches the corners for you, alerting you if another vehicle slides into those spaces.

The rear cross-traffic warning and rear automatic emergency braking system detects approaching vehicles from the side when you’re in reverse. It provides audible and visual cues and will brake for you to avoid an accident. Plus there are safety measures applied to keep the car from rolling away if the driver fails to put the vehicle in park.

There are several new safety technologies for the 2020 Genesis G90. The lane following assist and highway driving assist help keep the car centered in the lane. The safety system can also detect speed limit signs and adjusts your speed to keep you legal. There’s also a safe exit alert system that lets you know when you and your passengers are getting out of the car if there are vehicles coming from either side.

Crash test results

The 2020 Genesis G90 is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+. It also received a superior rating in front crash prevention vehicle-to-vehicle and an advanced rating in front crash prevention vehicle-to-pedestrian. The G90 got top ratings on all categories within both crashworthiness and crash avoidance and mitigation.

The only thing it got a lower acceptable rating on was on ease of use for child seat latches.

The G90 hasn’t been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

A great warranty

The 2020 Genesis G90 comes with an excellent set of warranties. The basic bumper-to-bumper warranty is for five years or 60,000 miles. The drivetrain warranty is impressive with 10 years or 100,000 coverage. There’s corrosion coverage that covers any rust on the bodywork for unlimited miles up to seven years.

The roadside warranty gives the owner a number to call in case the car breaks down. It includes coverage for emergency fuel, jump starts, tire changes, unlocking services, towing, and more. The warranty for this is for unlimited miles for up to five years.

The G90 also offers a maintenance warranty for free scheduled maintenance through a participating dealership for three years or 36,000 miles.

The Genesis G90 is luxurious and safe

There’s a lot to like about the 2020 Genesis G90. It’s a great luxury sedan that’s a bit more affordable than its brand name peers but can otherwise match them on almost every front. It has a smooth ride, an opulent interior, and two great engine choices.

With a wealth of standard active safety features, the G90 provides great safety along with more affordable luxury. If you’re looking for a larger luxury car, this should be near the top of your list.
