How the 2021 Toyota 4Runner’s reliability ratings were determined

Consumer Reports’ reliability data is among the most comprehensive. Generated using its ‘Auto Reliability Surveys,’ which received 329,000 responses during Consumer Reports’ latest round of reliability surveys, Consumer Reports asks its members to report on any serious problems they have had with their vehicle during the past 12 months. Consumer Reports then uses that data to determine a vehicle’s overall reliability rating.

However, Consumer Reports isn’t the only one scoring vehicles based on their overall reliability. J.D. Power also puts out vehicle reliability ratings. According to J.D. Power, to find out a vehicle’s overall quality and reliability rating, it measures the “level of defects, malfunctions and design flaws experienced by vehicle owners.”

What the 2021 Toyota 4Runner’s reliability ratings mean

If it’s a reliable SUV that you’re after, the 2021 Toyota 4Runner makes for a pretty decent pick. According to Consumer Reports, this year’s model earned itself a five out of five overall reliability rating, which marks a pretty big improvement when compared to last year’s model. While last year’s 4Runner earned a four out of five reliability rating, this year’s model was able to make up for it.

As for J.D. Power? It gave the 2021 Toyota 4Runner a ‘Great’ quality and reliability rating. Unfortunately for the 4Runner, that’s not the highest rating that J.D. Power gives out. However, a ‘Great’ quality and reliability rating isn’t all bad. Pair it with Consumer Reports’ high reliability rating, and the data shows that the 2021 Toyota 4Runner makes for a pretty reliable pick among its segment.
