The 2020 Yaris is an inexpensive car. With a base price hovering around $18,000, the 2020 Yaris makes for a practical choice among its segment. While its 106-horsepower engine and modestly appointed interior aren’t going to blow anyone anyway, this year’s Yaris is meant for those who want to get the most value out of their new car purchase.

But, is the 2020 Yaris a reliable car? While Consumer Reports has this year’s model ranking among the top subcompact cars on the market today, that doesn’t automatically mean it’s the most reliable choice among its segment.

2020 Yaris reliability ratings

When determining how reliable drivers can expect the 2020 Yaris to be, Consumer Reports gave it a 4 out of 5 predicted reliability rating. The 2020 Yaris earned itself a similarly high rating from J.D. Power, which gave it a 79 out of 100, or ‘Great’ quality and reliability rating.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2020 Yaris hasn’t faced any recalls either. Only one complaint has been reported to the NHTSA too. The complaint describes issues with the front passenger seatbelt not securing properly and a side mirror becoming detached from the vehicle.

2020 Yaris safety features

Also worth considering are the safety features that the 2020 Yaris has to offer. Though this car may be accompanied by a low price tag, that doesn’t mean it makes any compromises when it comes to safety features.

This year’s Yaris comes standard with all of the usual safety features. It also comes standard with a low-speed pre-collision system. Not only can this system detect a potential front collision, but it also provides alerts and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a frontal collision.

When it comes to safety ratings, this year’s Yaris fares pretty well. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the Yaris as ‘Good’ in all crashworthiness categories. Though, this year’s model did take a hit for its headlights, which earned a ‘Poor’ rating.

2020 Yaris warranty coverage

The 2020 Yaris is covered by both a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. It also comes standard with ToyotaCare, a maintenance plan that covers things like oil changes, tire rotations, and more.

To inspire true peace of mind behind the wheel, this year’s model also comes with 24-hour Roadside Assistance for 2 years and unlimited mileage. Whether you’re in need of a battery jump or find yourself stranded by a flat tire, Toyota’s roadside assistance plan has got you covered.

Compared to its competitors

The 2020 Yaris isn’t the only vehicle in its segment. According to Consumer Reports, only one vehicle ranks higher than this year’s new Yaris. That vehicle is the 2020 Honda Fit.

While Consumer Reports gave the 2020 Fit a 4 out of 5 predicted reliability ranking, J.D. Power gave it an 82 out of 100 quality and reliability rating. Other compact cars worth considering include the Hyundai Accent and the Chevy Spark.

If you’re hoping to get the most bang for your buck with your next car purchase, the 2020 Yaris makes for a reasonable pick. Based on its economical price tag and current reliability ratings, you can count on this year’s model to get you to your next destination. Not to mention, if something does happen, Toyota’s got you covered with unlimited roadside assistance for 2 years.
