Aston Martin DBX: Engine and performance
What engine comes with the new Aston Martin DBX707? The performance version of the SUV comes with a 4.0-liter AMG V8 that’s been “substantially engineered in-house” to output the best performance possible. It uses ball-bearing turbochargers and a revised calibration to make 697 horsepower. That’s 155 more horsepower than the non-performance Aston Martin DBX model. It also makes 663 pound-feet of torque, also up from the DBX.
Additionally, it has more horsepower than competitors like the 626-hp Bentley Bentayga W12 Speed, 641-hp Lamborghini Urus, and 670-hp Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid. A representative of Aston Martin admitted that the Porsche model was a benchmark during development, ensuring the new SUV would beat its opponents. Lastly, the 707 model uses an AMG nine-speed gearbox with a wet-clutch pack instead of a torque converter. According to CAD, this allows for quicker gear changes and launch-control starts and a 3.1 second 0-60 time.
What design changes are there for the DBX707?
To differentiate the performance Aston Martin SUV from the standard model, many things had to change. These include new wheels, a more prominent front bumper and grille, dark trim around the windows instead of chrome, and a massive diffuser element with quad exhaust tips. On the inside, there are new sport seats, a revised center console, a rotary gear selector, new shortcut buttons for drive modes, and more.
