The Honda Civic is one the most well-known and most-popular compact cars on the market and it continues to be a front-runner in its class every year. The Civic provides an entry-level solution to just about anyone that’s in need of a long-lasting set of wheels for their everyday commute. But just how long will a Honda Civic last?

The Honda Civic can last for a multitude of miles

Without even really guessing, you probably already know that just about any Honda Civic that you can buy (new or used) could potentially last a million miles or more. In many cases, Honda Civics have easily reached over the 300,000-mile mark and it’s not uncommon to find used Civics for sale with over 200,000 miles on them. But what mostly attributes to the Honda Civic’s longevity?

According to Motors and Wheels, any Civic’s longevity depends on whether or not it’s been properly maintained throughout the years. Fortunately, the Honda Civic is well known for being really easy and inexpensive to maintain, no matter which model year you buy. Repair Pal estimates that the annual repair cost for a newer 2020 Honda Civic is $368 and gives it a 4.5 out of 5 stars when it comes to reliability.

What are the best used Honda Civic models to buy?

It’s “buyer’s choice” when it comes to picking out the right used Honda Civic, so almost any model from the past 10 years will serve its purpose for a long time. But if you want to know any specific years, then the 2014 Civic received few complaints on Car Complaints, most of which were for body and paint issues. And if you need something older than that, then the 2012 Honda Civic received few complaints as well.

Many owners love the eighth-generation Civic, which was produced from 2006 to 2011, however, we would suggest sticking to later years of that generation should you shop for one of those. Many owners of the 2006 to 2007 Civics reported issues with cracked engine blocks and other serious problems.  Fortunately, you can currently find a lot of different eighth-generation Civic models for sale for anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000 depending on the car’s location, trim, and condition.

However, if you need a cheaper Honda Civic to better fit your budget, then you can also opt for one from the early 2000s or even the late 90s, as many of those sell for under $5,000. Just be sure to get it checked out by a professional mechanic before buying one.

The 2021 Honda Civic should last a long time

Since the Honda Civic is reportedly being redesigned for the 2022 model year, the current 2021 model is a great one to pick up. If you do plan on buying one, then we suggest shopping closer to the end of the year or at least on a major holiday in order to get the best deal possible.

Even if you were to get the base Honda Civic LX, which starts at around $22,000, you’ll have the added benefit of the Honda Sensing driver-assist suite as standard equipment in addition to necessities like Bluetooth and a multi-angle backup camera. What’s even better is that it’s sure to last you for many years, possibly even a million miles.
