How Far Can a 2023 Ford Ranger Go on a Full Tank of Gas?

As a mid-size truck, the 2023 Ford Ranger is fairly popular. And, if you are curious about Ford Ranger gas mileage, that makes sense. Although it is a pickup truck, it does feature a turbocharged engine. Because of that, the Ranger does benefit from fuel efficiency that trucks with a traditional V6 typically do not. How far can it go on a single tank of gas?

Do Ford Rangers get good gas mileage?

Depending on how you look at it, the 2023 Ford Ranger is fairly decent on fuel. With two-wheel drive, this mid-size truck gets 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, or 23 mpg combined. And if you compare that to pickups of the past, that is solid fuel economy. If you opt for a four-wheel drive Ranger, you will take a slight hit on fuel economy. The EPA fuel economy is 20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Every 2023 Ford Ranger does come with an 18-gallon fuel tank. Additionally, the Ranger is still limited to just one engine. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine makes 270 horsepower and 310 pound-foot of torque. When properly equipped, Ford’s mid-size truck can tow up to 7,500 lbs and haul up to 1,860 lbs.

How far can a Ranger drive on a single tank of gas?

With the kind of economy offered by the Ford Ranger gas mileage, you should be able to drive about 400 miles on a full tank of gas. Now, that does depend on the conditions that you are driving in and what kind of driver you are. If you’ve got a heavy foot or you are towing something, you will likely experience a drop in range.

In comparison to Ford Rangers of the past, 398 miles of range is an impressive number. And although you can’t currently get a V6 Ranger here in the United States, improved fuel economy might be a worthy trade-off. Especially with gas prices being what they are.

Will the 2023 Ford Ranger have a V6?

While other markets do get a V6 Ranger, it is not currently offered in the United States. According to Car and Driver, Ford does plan to offer a turbodiesel V6 in some markets, but it’s not clear if it will make its way here.

To some, that is likely a disappointment. Traditional thought says that a real pickup truck needs at least six cylinders. But, with 270 hp, the EcoBoost engine does provide ample power. Plus, you can get 4WD along with various off-road packages.

How expensive is the 2023 Ford Ranger?

The Ranger has a starting MSRP of $26,400. That price is for the most basic version of this mid-size truck, and that is best saved for fleet use or as a work truck. A step up from the XL trim, it might be a good idea to check out the Ranger XLT.

This trim brings more features, including standard safety tech like automatic emergency braking. If you want a mid-size pickup with some off-road prowess, opt for the FX4 Off-Road package.
