Houston man files a false stolen vehicle report after picking up his wife when she crashed their car leaving a bar
A Texas man landed in hot water after trying to cover up a car crash by falsely reporting his vehicle stolen. Deputies arrested Alexander Race after discovering his story didn’t add up.
The trouble began when deputies responded to a crash on Memorial Chase Road in Harris County. They found a car abandoned in a wooded area with no driver in sight. As they investigated, Race actually called the police, claiming his vehicle had been stolen.
But deputies quickly uncovered the truth.
According to investigators, Race’s wife had been driving home from a bar when she crashed the car. Rather than report the accident, Race picked up his wife and her friend and came up with a lie instead.
Authorities weren’t fooled. Race was arrested and charged with making a false report. He was booked into the Harris County Jail and released on a $100 bond, KPRC shared.
Filing a false stolen car report is a serious offense in Texas.
In Harris County, making a false report is a Class B misdemeanor. If convicted, Race could face up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
It’s unlikely the wife will face any DUI charges since there’s zero proof of her BAC level at the time of the car accident.
