Two women riding in a classic Honda sedan suffered serious injuries after their driver ran a stop sign and crashed into a much larger vehicle – a Toyota Tundra – in Sacramento County, California. Nearby residents call for additional measures to prevent such crashes, which they say are frequent.

“I heard crunching metal…the usual sounds.”

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Alta Arden Expressway near Wright Street. CHP said the driver of an older Honda, which appears to be at least 20 years old, failed to stop, slamming into a Toyota Tundra driven by a man in his 30s.

The impact caused the Toyota to flip over. The crash didn’t just damage the vehicles – it also tore through a nearby apartment complex fence.

One condo resident, Wendy, was sitting just on the other side of the exterior wall closest to the flipped Tundra. “I heard crunching metal…the usual sounds. And the building shook really hard.”

The Honda driver fled the scene, leaving behind two female passengers in their 20s, who were rushed to the hospital with major injuries. Authorities didn’t confirm whether the Toyota driver was hurt.

Besides the Honda and Toyota Tundra, residents say crashes happen here far too often

David Reed, who lives in a nearby condo, said reckless drivers ignoring the stop sign have been a constant problem. To protect his home, he built a rock wall and reinforced his property with a fence and concrete pillars.

“A light needs to be put up or patrol police to stop the running of the stop signs,” Reed told KCRA News.

Typically, local traffic officials monitor intersections with frequent crashes using accident reports and public complaints. Solutions often include adding traffic signals, flashing stop signs, or increased patrols to enforce the rules. In some cases, they redesign intersections to improve visibility and slow down drivers.

Since 2012, the record shows 22 car accidents at this intersection, including one fatality. Residents hope officials take action before another tragedy strikes.
