The Honda CR-V made big waves this year with its redesign. It has a stylish new look, better driving dynamics, and a more refined interior. However, the CR-V misses out on a great new feature in one of its crossover SUV competitors, the Chevrolet Blazer. Unlike the 2023 Honda CR-V, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV has an all-electric powertrain.

Chevrolet and Honda are taking different approaches to EVs. Honda has been slow to go electric, focusing instead on its gas-powered and hybrid vehicles. This shows with the 2023 Honda CR-V. It has a new hybrid powertrain with improved performance and efficiency. However, there’s no electric version of the CR-V in the works. Also, Honda doesn’t currently sell an EV in America. The automaker has the upcoming Prologue EV midsize SUV, but that likely won’t be available until early 2024.

Conversely, Chevrolet and GM, with the Ultium electric vehicle platform, are going heavy for EVs. This includes the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV, which is expected to arrive in Summer 2023. The Blazer is an iconic SUV that dates back to 1969. In all of its history, it was a fully gas-powered model. However, for the 2024 model year, the Blazer goes all-electric. The gas-powered version will still be available, but production for it is slated to end in 2025.

Advantages of the Chevy Blazer EV over the Honda CR-V

The electric powertrain in the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV gives the crossover SUV multiple advantages over the Honda CR-V. On the performance front, with its electric motors, the Blazer EV delivers up to 557 horsepower. In comparison, the most powerful model in the 2023 Honda CR-V lineup is the hybrid, which generates only 204 horsepower.

The potent electric motors enable the Blazer EV to accelerate from 0-60 mph in only 4.0 seconds. Conversely, it takes the CR-V at least 7.5 seconds to complete the 0-60 mph sprint.

There are also environmental benefits of the electric powertrain in the Blazer EV. With its zero emissions, it doesn’t contribute to pollution and climate change like the internal combustion engine in the CR-V. Also, while the MPGe rating is not yet available for the Blazer EV, you can expect the electric crossover SUV to be more efficient than the CR-V.

Furthermore, the electric powertrain creates minimal noise compared to a gas engine. Consequently, the Blazer EV provides a quieter ride than the CR-V. Also, with fewer moving parts, the Chevrolet electric SUV is easier to maintain, which translates to lower repair costs.

2024 Blazer EV has technologies that are not available for the 2023 CR-V

In addition to the advantages of the electric powertrain, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV has technologies that are not offered for the 2023 Honda CR-V. This includes Super Cruise, which provides hands-free driving on compatible roads. The Blazer EV also has a full-display camera mirror, a head-up display, advanced park assist, and reverse automatic braking.

Additionally, there’s the feature-rich infotainment system, which has a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen. In comparison, the largest screen available for the CR-V is 9.0 inches.

The 2023 Honda CR-V misses out on a great new feature with the all-electric powertrain in its crossover SUV competitor, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV. While Chevrolet embraces an electric future, Honda lags behind.
