Honda cars are synonymous with reliability, sensibility, and affordability. Few of the marque’s models do a better job of demonstrating that fact than the famed Civic. Still, if you need more proof, the 2023 Honda Civic won the Edmunds Top Rated Car Award. That marks the second year in a row that the Honda model won the award.

Is the Honda Civic a good car?

The Honda Civic is a sensible, reliable, and affordable car. Also, the 11th-generation Civic got a much-needed design refresh. As a result, the 2023 Honda Civic has a face that doesn’t require a qualification like, “at least it’s fuel efficient.”

Moreover, the Civic is award-winning. The 2023 Civic won the Edmunds Top Rated Award. According to Edmunds, the 11th-gen Civic’s victory is due to “practically everything,” meaning it’s a top-scorer across the board. Edmund’s Editor-In-Chief, Alistair Weaver, said the 2023 model is “affordable, efficient, practical, and beautifully built; the Honda Civic has an enviable range of qualities.”

Honda also points out that the 11th-generation car brings the venerable Type R back. The performance-oriented hot hatchback also gets design cues from the Civic styling updates, ditching the dramatic and juvenile styling of the previous model.

The 2023 Honda Civic isn’t the first car in the marque’s lineup to win the Edmunds Top Rated Award

Honda says the 2023 Civic follows in the tracks of the 2022 model, which won the Edmunds Top Rated Award last year. That means the Civic has officially started a winning streak with two consecutive victories. Moreover, Honda cars have won four of the last five years between the Civic and Accord.

Edmunds says both years of the Civic are a “strong statement.” It’s an understandable conclusion, given the model’s new-found refinement and carryover value. Furthermore, the Civic defeated finalists like the Subaru BRZ and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

What’s new in the 2023 Civic?

The new 2023 Honda Civic doesn’t change too much. TrueCar says the most significant new addition to the 2023 lineup is the new Civic Type R and its performance credentials. The new 2023 Type R will produce 315 horsepower and have a six-speed manual transmission.

Moreover, the 2023 model will arrive in time for the 50th anniversary of the Civic namesake, and the 30th anniversary of the Type R. Consequently, potential owners will probably want their Civic Type Rs in the familiar Historic Championship White to celebrate the anniversaries. However, the 2023 model also owes its refreshed lease on life to the 2022 model year, which received a total redesign. TrueCar says Honda re-engineered the entire car inside and out, saving only the engine options from the previous model year.

How much does a new Honda Civic cost?

The new 2023 Honda Civic Sport starts at around $26,145. Further up the trim line, the EX, EX-L, and Si start at about $26,050, $27,250, and $28,100, respectively. The range-topping Touring trim starts at about $29,650.
