Ram has been building the fifth generation of its half-ton 1500 since 2019. As owners of the 5th-gen Ram 1500 put miles on their trucks, they find them very reliable–when serviced regularly. Read on for the Ram 1500 maintenance schedule.

What is considered high mileage for a Ram 1500?

Ram publishes a maintenance schedule up to 144,000 miles for its half-ton 1500 pickup truck. Some owners claim Ram 1500s are so reliable that they don’t consider their Ram trucks high mileage until they reach the 200k mark.

The current (fifth-generation) Ram 1500 shares many of its drivetrain components with the older (fourth -generation) pickup trucks. The current Ram 1500’s 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and ZF 8-speed automatic are tried-and-true components with a reputation for lasting a long time.

How many miles will a Ram 1500 last?

The lifespan of a half-ton Ram 1500 depends on how the truck is used and maintained. The fifth-generation Ram 1500 has only been in production since 2019, so there are not yet many examples of how it operates at high mileage. But at least one owner has put 200k miles on a 2019 Ram 1500.

Justin Wheeler is a diesel mechanic who must crisscross the U.S. with a truck full of tools. He chose a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited and has already put 190k miles on his pickup truck. He has carefully kept up with the recommended Ram 1500 maintenance schedule and promptly addressed issues, such as a cracked exhaust manifold. As a result, his drivetrain is still going strong.

What is the Ram 1500 maintenance schedule?

Ram recommends you bring your half-ton 1500 in for an oil change and tire rotation every 8,000 miles. Beginning at 20,000 miles, you should also have various other components of the truck inspected–and sometimes serviced as well.

Over his Ram’s first 190k miles, Justin Wheeler usually waited to bring it in for an oil change until the truck warned him that it was time to do so. Therefore, he brought it in for service every 8,000-10,000 miles.
