What in the Hellcat Is a Dodge Deluxe Security Alarm?

Aside from some available interior and safety features, returning Dodge vehicles are mostly unchanged for their new model years. However, some models have something called the Deluxe Security Alarm. Is this a must-have security mechanism or just a cheeky name for an existing feature?

The Dodge Challenger and Charger are returning for 2022, as well as the family-oriented Dodge Durango. Under the Stellantis umbrella, an electric Jeep and Ram truck will also debut in the next year or so, as will the exciting Dodge eMuscle.

Aside from some available interior and safety features, MotorTrend says these vehicles are mostly unchanged for their new model years. However, some models have something called the Deluxe Security Alarm. Is this a must-have security mechanism or just a cheeky name for an existing feature?

What we know about Dodge

Safety probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you envision the Dodge nameplate. After all, the Challenger was one of the first muscle cars to arrive on the scene in the early ’60s. With an 807-hp finely-tuned Hellcat engine, the Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock remains the world’s most powerful muscle car. According to its latest Stellantis press release, it can jump to 60 mph in a mere 3.25 seconds.

Stellantis says the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye is only slightly less powerful and has a top speed of 203 mph. If you want to save a boatload of cash, the engines offered in lower trims still have plenty of muscle. Dodge also boasts a standard eight-speed transmission across the lineup optimized for maximum speed and fuel economy.

Even the Dodge Durango gets to have fun with a Hellcat model, though it’s relatively underpowered compared to its smaller siblings. Still, it gives the big Durango a much-appreciated boost of strength and a more exciting drive. Stellantis says the 2022 Dodge Durango has a lot of utility as well, with room for seven adult riders.

What is Dodge’s Deluxe Security Alarm?

Auto theft continues to rise in the U.S., and fun sports cars are top targets for thieves. According to Dodge Garage, over 6,000 Dodge Chargers and Challengers have been stolen during the past five years. Hellcat and Scat Pack trims get stolen more often, both because of their more impressive specs and aggressive marketing of the models from Dodge.

The Deluxe Security Alarm safety module has three functions to keep your vehicle as safe as possible. Currently, only the Enhanced Security function has been made available for 2021 models. It allows you to input a four-digit code into the radio head unit, temporarily reducing the car’s speed to under 3 horsepower.

The Key Programming Lockdown should be released sometime in October. Thieves with more technical prowess can make keys by hacking into the car’s electrical system. This lockdown will restrict the production of new keys. This also means drivers will have to keep track of their keys unless they want to buy a new module.

The last function is the Intrusion Module, which will start blaring an alarm when it detects a broken window. The sensors can also detect when someone is trying to unlawfully tow the vehicle or reach their hand through the window.

Which Dodge models have a Deluxe Security Alarm?

According to Motor1, only Dodge Challengers and Chargers with the supercharged HEMI and Hellcat engines will gain this Deluxe Security Alarm feature. It will be on 2022 models as standard equipment, but a rollout is planned for models dating back to 2015. Stellantis plans to add a new year to the rollout every six weeks.

Dodge owners take pride in their next-gen muscle cars, making it even more of a nightmare when they get stolen. Although theft insurance exists, it might not be able to reimburse you for the full monetary value of your stolen car. It’s good to see Stellantis doing everything it can to protect these valuable vehicles.
