Due to the high price tag, owning a luxury car seems like a dream for many consumers. However, it doesn’t have to be. As a luxury vehicle ages, the price will decrease, meaning you can purchase a luxury model as a used car. In fact, there are four luxury brands that you are probably better off buying used as opposed to new.

BMW

BMW is one of the world’s most well-known luxury vehicle automakers and for good reason. The vehicles are always stylish, there are rarely any cheap materials, and it’s become a bit of a status symbol.

iSeeCars recently released a study detailing the best cars to buy used instead of new ones. The BMW 5 Series came in at No. 1. The price difference between buying a gently used model and a new model is 36.4%. That is a price cut of $24,207.

The other BMW to make the list is the 3 Series. The price goes down 29.7%, which will save you $15,266.

The one major downside to purchasing a used BMW is the maintenance cost. The prices of repairs and maintenance have shocked more than one consumer who thought they were getting a good deal by buying a used BMW. If you can work on the vehicle yourself, this can help cut down on the cost. Meanwhile, taking it to a dealership will significantly increase the costs of repairs.

Infiniti

Infiniti is the luxury brand of Nissan. Many experts believe the Infiniti brand will be defunct by 2030, but for the moment, the luxury automaker is still hanging in there.

Two Infiniti models made the list. The first is the Q50, which came in at No. 3. There is a price drop of 34.9%, and the difference is $16,322. The other Infiniti that iSeeCars believes to be a solid purchase is the Q60. It costs 30.9% less, or $16,944.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is another brand of luxury vehicles that tends to be viewed as a status symbol. Its cars tend to range in price from $38,000 to well over $100,000. Mercedes-Benz is often associated with racing, and each model is also great for daily drivers.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA came in at No. 6 on the iSeeCars list. The price drop for a used model is 30.9%. This will save you an average of $13,562 instead of purchasing a new model.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA was placed at No. 10. Consumers who buy one used will save 29.5%, or around $13,420.

Cadillac

Cadillac has a new goal of being fully electric by 2030. There’s a lot of work to be done, but the American automaker is working hard to make this goal a reality.

There was only one Cadillac to make the list, which came in at No. 12. This was the Cadillac XT5. The XT5’s price drops 29.5% for used models, with a price difference of $13,420.

Consumer Reports does recommend the 2023 model but warns consumers that the engine options are lacking. The XT5 tends to feel a little lethargic while cruising around town, which is not something most consumers are willing to overlook in luxury vehicles. Despite this, it’s a decent enough vehicle if you can find one used.

Before purchasing a used car, it’s always a good idea to have it looked over by your mechanic. You should also be sure to check the mileage, as you may end up spending just as much on repairs as you would if you bought it new. Still, these four brands tend to be very reliable, so enjoy your new-to-you ride.
