Police in Fairview, Oregon responded to a deadly crash between a FedEx delivery van and a Ford F-150 pickup truck. Tragically, the head-on hit was enough to crush the F-150, resulting in a fatality and a couple of injuries. While the authorities say they don’t believe drugs or alcohol had anything to do with the crash, they want to remind drivers to slow down and “maintain their lane.”

A ‘serious’ head-on crash between a Ford F-150 and a FedEx delivery vehicle left a minor dead and injured two others

Marine Drive has a bit of a reputation. According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, motorists tend to speed on the road, leading to “a number of accidents.” Unfortunately, the narrow street sees head-on collisions between passing vehicles, like a recent deadly incident between a FedEx delivery van and a red Ford F-150.

The red truck was driving on Marine Drive in Fairview, Oregon, at around 6:00 p.m. when it had a “serious” head-on crash with a FedEx van traveling in the opposite direction. The Sheriff’s Office says the truck crossed the double-yellow center line when it struck the delivery vehicle. Tragically, the pickup truck’s 17-year-old driver died on the scene. The FedEx driver and the F-150’s passenger, on the other hand, were transported to a nearby hospital.

Authorities suggest that alcohol and drugs didn’t have anything to do with the wreck. However, MCSO spokesperson John Plock told KGW 8 that the deadly incident is a sobering reminder to drive carefully. “Unfortunately, people have a tendency to exceed the speed limit on Marine Drive,” Plock said of the road.

“We encourage drivers that use Marine Drive to number one, follow the speed limit and really pay attention to where you’re at in your lane. There’s not a lot of room between the lanes, so it’s important to maintain your lane.” It’s good advice for any road, really. After all, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that nearly one third of all road fatalities are speed-related. Slow down and stay alive.
