A few upgrades for the new Toyota Highlander make it better than the 2021 model. Firstly, the brand new Hybrid Bronze Edition model joins the lineup with exclusive Cement or Wind Chill Pearl exterior paint. Additionally, it comes with 18-inch bronze-colored wheels, which are unique. Next, the cabin is uniquely designed with geometric-pattern upholstery with bronze-colored detailing and illuminated bronze-colored doorsill protectors.

In addition, the XLE and higher trims now come with a height-adjustable power-seat feature for front passengers. Outside of these alterations, the 2022 Toyota Highlander remains the same as the 2021 model. Fortunately, the Highlander is only slightly more expensive.

Critics agree that the 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE trim is the best option for most people. Additionally, the Hybrid XLE is the best for buyers looking to improve their gas mileage. Both CAD and Edmunds recommend the XLE trim, and for similar reasons. The XLE trim has heated seats, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a power sunroof, and more.

Next, a Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation package is available, adding factory navigation and an upgraded stereo system. Finally, all-wheel drive costs another $1,600, and the hybrid powertrain is $1,400 more than the standard V6 engine. Edmunds noted that higher Limited trim adds features like ventilated seats and larger wheels, which are unnecessary for most buyers.

Is the Highlander a good SUV?

Overall, as with most Toyota SUV models, the Highlander is an excellent option. Although it didn’t receive many upgrades for the new model year, it didn’t need many. Highlights of the model include excellent fuel economy for a three-row SUV in its hybrid form, an affordable price, comfortable ride, and plenty of standard safety features. As with most Toyota models, it also comes with the reliability you can’t always find.

However, Car and Driver noted a snug third row of seats, which is commonplace for SUVs. Few SUVs provide ample room for third-row passengers, and the Highlander isn’t one of them. Additionally, there isn’t much cargo space behind the third row. That problem is solved when folding down the last row of seats, but owners will have trouble fitting many people and some extras in the trunk.

In conclusion, the 2022 Toyota Highlander is primarily the same SUV as the 2021 Toyota Highlander. There weren’t a lot of upgrades for it unless you opt for the Hybrid Bronze Edition. This unique new model helps owners stand out on the road, even from other Highlander drivers. However, those uninterested in mostly cosmetic features will find very little that’s new for the new model year. That’s what’s new with the 2022 Toyota Highlander, including trims, price, and more.
