It’s no secret that Ram trucks have been struggling. The V8 HEMI has returned to try and keep the train from going off the rails. However, the GMC Sierra is about to leap over the Ram 1500 as it falls even farther behind rivals.

The GMC Sierra could outsell the Ram 1500

In recent years, the Ram 1500 had a solid spot with the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 in the top three best-selling vehicles in America. Then it started to tumble after a turbocharged V6 engine replaced the beloved HEMI V8.

In 2024, the Ram 1500 sold 373,120 trucks. It landed in sixth place on the list of best-selling cars for 2024. Also, it came behind the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. The Ford F-150 racked up 732,139 sales, and the Chevy Silverado sold 542,517.

While the other top American trucks feel untouchable, now the GMC Sierra is dangerously close to jumping ahead of Ram.

In the third quarter of 2025, Ram sold 88,066 models, which is a 1.20% sales decline compared to last year. It also moved 262,386 trucks during the first three quarters of the year.

According to GM Authority, the GMC Sierra sold 85,436 trucks in the third quarter of the year, representing a 6.49% sales increase, and it’s at 251,845 sales for the first three quarters of 2025.

Things could change with end of the end-of-the-year sales and with the return of the HEMI. However, drivers could be prepared to buy the luxury version of a Chevy instead of the Ram truck.
