Paying a little more for the GMC Sierra 1500 is perfectly normal because it’s a luxury truck. The higher price tag includes more value and premium quality for daily driving, work, and off-roading. However, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 may also have one expensive disadvantage.

Unfortunately, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is the most expensive regular full-size truck to run. The only truck with higher costs to run for 2022 is the Ford F-150 Raptor, and that’s a high-performance option.

According to Zutobi, it costs about $6,991 per year to run. This calculation is based on the cost of gas per mile, the cost of gas per year, and the annual insurance price. The yearly insurance cost comes in at about $1,774.

You can expect to pay about $0.46 for gas per mile and about $5,216 for annual fuel costs. This is because the EcoTech 6.2-liter V6 engine is thirsty. It cranks out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque while getting an EPA-estimated 15 mpg in the city and up to 20 mpg on the highway.

These figures include models equipped with four-wheel drive. Also, off-roading can drop the fuel economy to about 11 mpg.

Also, it’s important to consider these prices going into 2023. The rising cost of inflation could increase insurance rates and fuel prices.

How much does the 2023 Sierra 1500 cost?

The price for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $37,100, and the range-topping Denali Ultimate trim takes the price up to $80,500. Then the destination fee adds another $1,895 to the price tag.

These prices don’t include dealership markups. Also, if you go for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate with no money down and 60-month financing, a three percent interest rate could come to $1,479 per month. These rates are subject to change based on rising interest rates.

For comparison’s sake, the 2023 Ford F-150 MSRP starts at $34,585 for the basic work truck. So, there’s only a $2.515 between base models. The top-spec F-150 Limited trim raises the MSRP to $83,910.

So, the most luxurious Ford F-150 model is actually $3,410 more than the Denali Ultimate. But the F-150 has a hybrid engine that provides a better fuel economy. It’s only about $100 cheaper to insure.
