A father and his four-year-old daughter are lucky to be alive after their Ford F-150 Hybrid suddenly went up in flames. The truck is a total loss, but they still have each other. But what caused this problem and is it common?

This Ford F-150 Hybrid suddenly burst into flames

What started as a normal morning for Anthony Zeni, his brother, and his four-year-old daughter quickly turned into a disaster.

He was in the process of towing his boat to a storage facility in Canton, Michigan with a 2023 Ford F-150 Hybrid

Then Anthony noticed smoke coming from the hood and decided to pull over. Seconds later, he noticed that the smoke changed from gray to black. Then flames erupted from the hood.

Anthony yelled for his brother to grab his daughter, and they managed to run to safety. He was worried that the truck may explode as it was totally engulfed in fire.

While he was happy that his family was safe, he was saddened to see his truck burn to the ground. His trust in hybrid vehicles is shaken.

Currently, he is going through his insurance company to remedy the situation and wishes Ford would help. However, Ford did say it is aware of the incident and is working to gather more information from Anthony to assist in the investigation.

Other drivers report issues with battery failure but haven’t been experiencing fires. It’s unclear why Anthony’s truck went up in flames.

There are no recalls related to the Ford F-150 Hybrid for fire risks. But there are fire-related recalls for the Ford Escape Hybrid, Ford Explorer Hybrid, Ford Maverick Hybrid, Lincoln Corsair models, and Ford F-150 Lightning.

It’s possible that the F-150 Hybrid might face a recall in the future related to fire risk. But there’s not much evidence to support this at the moment. Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) will investigate and provide a recall as necessary.
