The impact of Officer Abney’s sudden passing is being felt deeply across the state. Following the crash, several law enforcement agencies joined in a powerful procession, escorting Abney’s body to Macon for an autopsy. Citizens and fellow first responders lined the route to pay their respects, with civilian drivers even slowing down and honking their horns in a show of unified support.

One official discussed the immense pain of losing a colleague in such a tight-knit department.

“Caleb was a great asset to not only the police department but to the city of Hahira and the whole area that we serve,” the official shared. “Any police agency hurts when they lose one of their own. But to a small agency… you know, it becomes a brother and sisterhood, even closer than most”.
