South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company is responsible for producing some of the best SUVs of 2022. It’s positioned to be extremely successful in 2023 as well. Hyundai is the parent company of Kia and Genesis (its luxury brand). Genesis has produced several SUVs that compete at the highest levels within their respective segments. Is Genesis producing better SUVs than luxury giants like BMW and Mercedes-Benz?

The small luxury SUV segment is extremely competitive. Brands like Porsche, BMW, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, and many more compete for the top spot.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 starts at $42,900. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to make a whopping 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The small luxury SUV achieves 22 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.

Car and Driver praises the GV70 for its powerful engine options, luxurious exterior design, and lavish upper trim level interiors. Edmunds claims the 2023 Genesis GV70 has a roomy interior, comfortable seats, and plenty of cargo room.

Many automotive publications rank the 2023 Genesis GV70 higher than small luxury SUV options from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. It provides incredible value for the money and is recognized as one of the best small luxury SUV options on the market.

The 2023 Genesis GV80 gets sky-high overall scores

The Genesis GV80 is the South Korean automaker’s midsize luxury SUV model. It competes with the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class.

The 2023 Genesis GV80 starts at $55,550. It uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to make 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The midsize SUV gets 20 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway.

The GV80 has a smooth ride quality, great standard features, and a quiet cabin. Kelley Blue Book calls the GV80 its “Midsize Luxury SUV Best Buy for 2023”. The new GV80 is the first model year to include standard all-wheel drive. It’s closely related to the popular Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, so it’s no surprise that the GV80 is a hit among consumers.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 is a game-changer for EVs

The World Car of the Year for 2022 was the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The Genesis GV60 has a lot of Ioniq 5 DNA baked into it, and it shows.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 is near the top of TrueCar.com’s list of best electric SUVs. U.S. News & World Report praises the GV60 small luxury electric SUV’s acceleration, infotainment system, and handling. It starts at $59,290. The GV60 makes 314 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. It gets 248 miles of driving range on a full charge.

The BMW iX is BMW’s current electric SUV offering. It’s breathtaking, but it’s hardly affordable enough for the average driver at $84,100. Mercedes-Benz’s small luxury electric SUV, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB, hasn’t quite made the splash that the Genesis GV60 is making. Genesis has a long way to go to catch up to the prestige that has become synonymous with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but it’s certainly making huge gains.
