The 2023 Chevy Colorado marks an all-new version of this mid-size truck. It’s been seven years since General Motors gave this platform a serious update, but now, it is finally here. The 2023 Colorado has the ability to offer legitimate power, comes with modern features, and an aggressive look. But, what generation is this pickup truck in?

What is the current generation of Chevy Colorado?

The 2023 Chevy Colorado brings this truck into its third generation. It is only being sold as a crew cab truck with a five-foot bed. Another interesting change to the new Colorado is the fact that it only has one engine.

This engine is the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine has the ability to offer different power outputs depending on the trim. For the base model, buyers will get 237 horsepower and 259 pound-foot of torque. In its most powerful configuration, it generates 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. And that is fairly impressive for a four-cylinder engine.

Sadly, the 2023 Colorado does not have a V6 engine and Chevy has dropped the turbodiesel engine. And to some, that may be a dealbreaker when considering this pickup.

How much can the 2023 Colorado tow?

According to Car and Driver, the new Chevy Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lbs. And, that is the largest towing capacity in the mid-size truck segment. This pickup can tow more than rivals like the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. So, even though it has a four-cylinder engine, it is ready to get the job done.

It is worth noting that if you want the Colorado ZR2, the towing capacity does drop to 6,000 lbs. But that is still an ample number, and you get plenty of off-road capability.

How expensive is the 2023 Colorado?

Chevy has not yet revealed the final pricing of the 2023 Colorado. But, this mid-size truck will likely start under $30,000. For higher trim levels, it is likely that the price will increase significantly. Hopefully, pricing remains comparable to the outgoing model.

In terms of which one to buy, that really comes down to personal preference. The Z71 trim has typically offered a solid value proposition. Especially for those who do not need the off-road power of the ZR2 package.

Should you buy a 2023 Chevy Colorado?

If you are a fan of GM, the Colorado is a fairly impressive truck. And now that it is in its third generation, it comes with some of the latest automotive features and technology. The interior has been redesigned to feel more comfortable. And that lends the Colorado to offer an enjoyable and competent drive. You can even get things like a sunroof and under-bed storage, which makes the bed more usable.

Pricing has not been released yet, but this mid-size truck should be similar in terms of price to other pickups. It’s been some time since the Colorado got a new generation, so the 2023 model is a fairly exciting prospect. And the same will likely be said about the 2023 GMC Canyon, which is the Colorado corporate cousin.
