Memphis, TN Gas station fails test and is ordered to stop selling gas
Did you know that gas stations get tested?! Apparently, samples of gas and diesel are often collected to determine if it’s bad or incorrectly mixed. One station in Memphis, Tennessee recently failed a test and has been ordered to stop selling gas.
Gas station fails test and must stop selling gas
One gas station in Memphis, Tennessee can’t legally sell gas at the moment. The BP at 1723 Jackson Avenue recently failed a test.
According to Action News 5, Monique Williams bought $25 worth of fuel during her commute home on a rainy afternoon. Then her BMW had problems the next day. It started shaking and cut off.
Now she faces a $1,200 repair and mechanics found water in her fuel tank. She spoke with the manager of the BP, but they didn’t take responsibility for the bad gas.
So, she called the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. It tested a sample of gas and found that it failed phase separation and workmanship. The BP has been ordered to stop selling gas.
Within five days, an inspector will collect another sample to ensure that it no longer has issues and that a correction has been made by the owner. Failure to do so may result in civil penalties.
Drivers are encouraged to call the state Department of Agriculture if you suspect a problem with fuel that you purchased from a local gas station.
You can take legal action to collect money you’ve lost if you believe you paid for bad gasoline. However, the state can’t help you recover the funds. You will be provided with site inspection and lab reports to support the claim.
