Trucks are seen as capable workhorses folks can use on or off the road for various purposes, but some trucks will be more capable than others. One of the most critical specs about a truck is its ground clearance. A capable truck should have plenty of ground clearance. Not counting any heavy-duty trucks, here’s a look at the three full-size pickup trucks with the most ground clearance right now.

3. Ford F-150 Lightning

The F-150 Lightning is the EV version of the F-150 and is as capable as the truck it’s based on. On top of that, the Lightning will be relatively affordable, starting at just under $40,000. When combined, this will pay for two electric motors generating 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. Since it’s an EV, it’ll be very fast in terms of acceleration, as it can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Regarding towing and payload capacity, the standard Lightning can tow up to 7,700 pounds of stuff or carry 2,000 pounds of payload. That said, despite having a massive 98-kWh battery, the standard Lightning only gets about 230 miles of range, though Ford does offer a longer range version that can reach over 300 miles.

According to Edmunds, another great aspect of the Lightning is its 8.9 inches of ground clearance. Since this Ford pickup truck has all-wheel drive as standard, it should be a competent truck for off-roading.

2. Toyota Tundra

Although the Tundra is not an EV like the Lightning is, it’s still a competent truck. This is especially true for the 2022 model year, as Toyota has finally given the Tundra a significant overhaul. The Tundra now comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. While this engine won’t allow the Toyota to beat the Lightning in a drag race, it’ll allow it to tow more stuff.

Thanks to this new engine, the Tundra can tow just over 10,000 pounds of stuff and even more with the optional engine. Its payload capacity is about 2,000 pounds, similar to what the Lightning gets. Ground clearance is one area where the Tundra is better than the Lightning. Edmunds wrote that the Tundra has 9.3 inches of ground clearance as standard.

1. GMC Hummer EV with the most ground clearance

The truck with the most ground clearance is the Hummer EV, and this new EV from GMC is the best in many areas. The cheapest Hummer EV starts at about $80,000 and comes with two electric motors with about 625 hp combined. This standard powertrain won’t allow the Hummer EV to tow much, as it has a standard towing capacity of 7,500 pounds and can carry about 1,300 pounds of payload.

The standard Hummer EV should be able to get 250 miles of range and recharge quickly. This massive 9,000-pound EV has about 10.1 inches of ground clearance, which is the most in the segment.

Many trucks will have more ground clearance with options though

If these trucks aren’t doing anything for you, then there are definitely other trucks on the market with significant ground clearance. However, those trucks will get that ground clearance if you choose the right options or packages. So folks will have to spend money to get great ground clearances.
