What do drivers want? Hybrid trucks and SUVs! This is great as Ford, Toyota, Jeep, and many other automakers are expanding their hybrid offerings. However, Ford Motor Company warns that pricing for hybrid vehicles may increase.

Ford CEO warns about increasing prices for hybrid trucks and SUVs

While some drivers are still skeptical about the reliability of hybrid trucks and SUVs, others are going all in for the increased fuel efficiency. The Ford F-150 and Maverick Hybrid have proven to be popular options.

But Ford CEO Jim Farley suggests that prices could increase soon. This could be related to market uncertainty. For example, the Trump administration is working to reduce emission regulations.

It’s proposing to rescind a legal finding that allows the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate vehicle emissions. The decision on this matter will be made in December.

The 2009 endangerment finding determines that greenhouse gases endanger public health. Rescinding it would revoke regulations for emissions from cars, trucks, and power plants.

For some folks, this is great news. This could allow automakers to return to less efficient gas-powered engines, despite having to pay more for fuel.

But it would also encourage automakers to move away from stricter standards. It could demotivate research and innovation in fuel saving and clean vehicle technologies.

According to Yahoo, ending the federal EV tax credit has already shown a massive reduction in the shift towards fully electric vehicles. They’re potentially becoming more expensive to make and less profitable.

If incentives are weakened for hybrid vehicles, then we could see the same thing happen in the partially electrified space. Prices will have to increase for hybrid models to continue being profitable.

Plus, the Novelis aluminum plant fire is forcing automakers to conserve resources for their best selling models, potentially delaying hybrid options.
