Ford issues “do not drive” warning over Super Duty truck brake failure

Audio By Carbonatix
Automakers issue a ton of recalls, and often they are for a software patch or maybe a seat latch wearing prematurely. But occasionally they must issue “do not drive” warnings. And that’s when you know they aren’t playing around. Ford just issued a “do not drive” for its Super Duty trucks. The problem? The brake pedal may physically disconnect itself from the brakes, rendering the entire system inoperable. Here are the affected models:
- 2025 Ford Super Duty F-250
- 2025 Ford Super Duty F-350
- 2025 Ford Super Duty F-450
- 2025 Ford Super Duty F-550
So what exactly is the problem? These pickup trucks have a brake pedal attached to a brake booster pushrod. When you stamp the pedal, this pushrod activates the brakes. Well, the retaining spring holding the pedal to the pushrod may not have been properly installed, and the entire assembly’s at risk of falling apart.
Ford suspects this bad batch of trucks was assembled between March 19th, 2024, and May 4th, 2025. There’s no word which Ford plant they came out of. But the Blue Oval is hoping only 2,345 have the problem. Dealerships will inspect and repair all the recalled trucks’ brake pedal assemblies.
This is just the latest in a record number of Ford recalls. Many of Ford’s 70+ recalls affecting 2.5 million vehicles are repeat recalls after an NHTSA-mandated audit of software installed during previous recalls. But some are truly build quality issues, such as an improperly assembled steering assembly on F-150s out of Ford’s Kansas City plant.
The Ford Super Duty “do not drive” warning and brake system recall is called Ford recall 25C26. Curious about open recalls on your vehicle? You can call your dealership with your VIN handy or punch your VIN in at NHTSA.gov.
