The popularity of the 2022 Ford Maverick is no secret. In fact, this compact pickup truck has been so popular that Ford had to place a pause on current orders. Which makes finding this new truck a fairly difficult task. Despite its unibody construction and small size, the 2022 Maverick has been outselling other trucks, including the Ford Ranger. So, how is the Ford Maverick selling, and does it prove Americans are interested in small pickup trucks again?

How well is the 2022 Ford Maverick selling?

When the Ford Maverick was initially announced, it was meant with some skepticism, but now, this small truck is selling extremely well. In terms of sales, the Maverick outsold competitors like the Hyundai Santa Cruz, but it outsold other trucks as well. These include the Toyota Tundra and even the Ford Ranger. In January of 2022, the Maverick had both of these models beat.

That isn’t to say that the 2022 Maverick is taking over the truck market. The Ford F-150 still remains the most popular truck in the United States, and, according to The Drive, the Toyota Tacoma still dominates the mid-size truck segment.

Is the Maverick a good truck?

When it comes to being a good truck, the 2022 Ford Maverick excels. It may be unibody and not have the capability of a full-size truck, but it is good enough for most uses. And, the affordable price tag does not hurt either. A base Maverick pickup can be had for around $20,000, which is truly impressive.

The new Maverick comes standard with a hybrid powertrain. But, for those who do not want to buy a hybrid truck, a turbocharged engine is optional. It even boasts available all-wheel drive for added capability off-road and in winter conditions.

What are the trim levels of the Ford Maverick?

The Ford Maverick is currently available in three distinct trim levels. These trims include:

  • Maverick XL, priced at $19,995
  • Maverick XLT, with an MSRP of $22,360
  • Maverick Lariat, costing $25,860

With pricing like this, the Ford Maverick is an attainable truck in a world where these vehicles can easily be priced over $50,000. And that likely plays into the popularity of Ford’s new compact truck.

Because the Maverick is available in multiple trim levels, getting the right amount of truck for your specific needs is an easy task. Whether you are shopping for a new work truck or want something with more creature comforts.

Currently, customer orders for the 2022 Maverick are paused. So the best way to find a new Ford Maverick is to visit a dealership or buy on the used market. Unfortunately, the Maverick is not immune to current supply chain issues. So that is making buying a new one a frustrating process. But, Ford has stated that it will begin accepting orders for the 2023 Maverick at some point in 2022. Which should be appreciated by those in search of a compact pickup truck.
