According to 2022 data from S&P Global Mobility, Ford Motor Company is the industry leader in U.S. production volume, exports, and U.S. hourly autoworker employment for the fifth straight year. The report indicates that in 2022, Ford assembled more than 1.8 million vehicles in the United States — 130,000 more than the closest auto manufacturer. Moreover, nearly 80% of the vehicles Ford sells stateside are assembled by its estimated 57,000 manufacturing workers in the U.S.

In addition, the report shows that Ford exported 260,000 U.S.-assembled vehicles — including the F-150, Explorer, and Mustang — to other countries in 2022. That’s 65,000 more than the next closest competitor. And approximately one in every seven vehicles Ford assembles in the United States is exported to other markets.

Ford’s commitment to U.S. production and exports is a point of pride for the company. Bill Ford — the company’s executive chair and the founder’s great-grandson — stated in a news release (via Detroit Free Press) that “Ford is the most American of all car companies. It is because of our belief in our workforce and in America that we build more vehicles and have more hourly employees here than other companies.”

The Blue Oval also leads as the top-selling vehicle brand in 2023

According to Newsweek, Ford is the top-selling vehicle brand in North America in 2023 so far. That’s due to the strong sales of Ford’s trucks and SUVs. The company’s commitment to these segments has driven its sales growth, along with the increasing popularity of electric vehicles such as the F-150 Lightning.

Ford’s numbers put it on track to come close to its first-quarter 2020 sales figures before the pandemic and semiconductor chip crisis affected the industry. Overall, the company’s position as the top-selling vehicle brand in North America speaks to its continued popularity among consumers.

Here are the best-selling 2023 Ford models

Ford F-Series trucks have been long-standing favorites among American car buyers, and 2023 has been no different. The F-Series has significantly contributed to the company’s status as the top-selling brand in the U.S., with over 170,000 units sold in the first quarter of 2023. This figure is a significant improvement over the same period last year, when the automaker sold 140,701 F-Series units.

Another notable best-seller is the Ford Explorer midsize SUV. With 58,061 units sold in Q1 2023, this model has driven the company’s SUV sales growth. In comparison, the company sold 42,736 Explorer units in the same period in 2022. The Bronco compact SUV is another notable performer, with 32,430 units sold in Q1 2023, compared to 23,573 units sold in the same period last year. That’s a testament to the vehicle’s popularity, thanks to its off-road capabilities and rugged, retro design.

Overall, Ford’s strong sales performance in the first quarter of 2023 can be attributed to the success of these best-selling models. The company’s commitment to the truck, SUV, and EV segments will likely continue driving sales in the coming months.
