Ford Recalls 2025-2026 Mavericks Because the Moonroof Glass Could Completely Detach

Ford Motor Company has officially notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a new safety recall affecting certain 2025 and 2026 Ford Maverick pickups. According to the filed documents, the moonroof glass may not be bonded correctly to the frame. If the bond fails, the entire glass panel could detach from the vehicle while driving, creating a dangerous road hazard for other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash.

Fortunately, the recall population is relatively small, affecting a total of 323 vehicles. The impacted Mavericks were built at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant between April 15, 2025, and April 25, 2025. Ford estimates that roughly 63% of the vehicles in this specific population actually contain the defect.

The Flying Moonroof Defect

Ford’s investigation into the issue began in early 2026 after receiving a report from Brazil regarding a 2025 Maverick that experienced a moonroof glass detachment while driving. After investigating with the moonroof module supplier, Inalfa Roof Systems de Mexico, Ford engineers traced the problem back to a material quality issue.

According to the safety report, an issue with the adhesive catalyzer used during the manufacturing process resulted in an insufficient urethane bonding cure. Simply put: the glue holding the glass to the frame didn’t set properly.

While the glass could detach without warning, Ford notes that customers might experience wind noise or notice water leaks coming from the moonroof assembly prior to a complete failure. As of late February 2026, Ford is not aware of any other reports, accidents, or injuries related to this condition beyond the initial occurrence in South America.

The Inspection and Fix

Because replacement parts are not immediately available, Ford is rolling out this recall in phases. Here is what owners need to know:

  • Dealers will inspect the production date label on the roof opening panel.
  • If the glass build date falls within the suspect manufacturing range (April 7, 2025, through April 9, 2025), the vehicle will fail the inspection.
  • If the vehicle fails, the dealer will provide the customer with a rental vehicle while the truck is held for repairs.
  • Replacement moonroof parts are anticipated to be available around May 4, 2026.
  • Once parts arrive, the moonroof glass assembly will be completely replaced free of charge.
  • Ford will mail interim notification letters to owners starting March 30, 2026, with a second letter following once the final remedy parts are available.
  • Owners who already paid out-of-pocket to fix this specific issue prior to April 20, 2026, may be eligible for a refund.
  • Concerned Maverick owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26S18.
