Ford Recall Hits 422,613 Trucks and SUVs Over Dangerous Wiper Defect

Ford has recalled 422,613 vehicles due to a problem with the wiper arm that does not function properly in bad weather and, in some cases, detaches from the vehicle. The issue could lead to serious visibility challenges, leading to a potential crash.

17,210 units of the 2021-2023 Lincoln Navigator, 79,164 units of the 2021-2023 Ford Expedition, and 326,239 units of the 2022-2023 Ford Super Duty (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600) have been recalled due to the wiper issue.

A report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that the windshield wiper arm on the affected vehicles “may operate erratically, become inoperable, and/or detach from the vehicle.”

Drivers have been advised to look out for “erratic wipe speed” of both the driver’s-side and passenger’s-side wiper arms. Describing the cause of the wiper issue, the NHTSA stated:

“The windshield wiper arm´s latch retention plate may have been incorrectly staked at the supplier. The latch retention plate keeps the arm head properly seated to the wiper arm. Additionally, the engagement between the knurl and wiper arm head may be reduced due to dimensional variability. Proper knurl-toarm head teeth engagement ensures robust wiper arm operation.”

Ford Found Out About The Wiper Issue In January 2026

The issue was first brought to the notice of Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group in January 2026 when certain Navigator and Expedition models reported “stripped wiper arm splines or wiper arms detaching from the vehicle.”

Based on its findings, Ford investigated the issue in February, including the Super Duty models, prompted by the high number of warranty claims. In March, the investigation led to the determination of the root cause of the issue.

The report states that Ford is unaware of “any accidents, injuries or fires related to this concern.” A solution to the problem is being worked on by Ford, including an inspection process. Wiper arms that do not pass the inspection will be replaced by Ford.

The replaced wiper arms “will be produced with correct staking of the latch retention plate, and wiper arm splines within specification.” Owners will be mailed initial recall letters between April 13 and April 17, 2026.
