With a more urban market in mind, the FX2 off-road package brings a few changes to the 2020 Ford Ranger. The package comes with two tire options. You can either have your Ranger riding on 17-inch or 18-inch off-road tires. The front underbody guard and removal of the air dam shield the truck’s underbody and improve approach angles while giving the Ranger a tougher look on the road.

The FX2 package also comes with suspension tuned for off-roading. On top of that, the included electronic-locking rear differential further increases the Ranger’s traction and off-road performance. The truck’s interior wasn’t left behind, either. The off-road cluster screen included in the FX2 package will now allow you to see roll, yaw, and pitch in real-time.

The FX2’s Purpose

The FX2 package might be the perfect option for consumers who are looking for increased off-road style and capability but don’t necessarily need the four-wheel-drive FX4. If you do a lot of desert running or light off-roading and do not intend to tackle more intense trails, then the FX2 package should be more than enough for you.

An added advantage of the two-wheel-drive option is better fuel economy. According to EPA ratings, the four-wheel-drive option would cost you an extra one mpg city, and two mpg highway. For others, the tougher appearance the FX2 off-road package adds might be what they are looking for in their Ford Ranger.

If you were looking for a tough, rugged, maneuverable pickup that is considerate to your budget, the 2020 Ford Ranger was already a great truck, and the new FX2 package improves it even more. The Ranger already boasts a 2.3-liter turbo-four coupled to an automatic 10-speed transmission. In addition to the available optional accessories, the 4G LTE modem capable of supporting 10 devices further make the Ford Ranger perfect for any adventure.

Why an FX2?

According to Ford Ranger’s marketing manager, Brian Bell, the FX2 off-road package provides another way for customers to personalize their trucks to match their lifestyle.

While trucks continue to get more expensive, the demand for personalization options continues to grow. The Ford Ranger’s consumer marketing manager, Chad Callander, pointed to this trend as the drive behind their efforts in growing the Ranger’s appearance and capability options further.

Currently, two in every three buyers are opting for the Chrome Appearance Package that has chrome wheels and chrome body accents, the STX Appearance Package, or the Sport Appearance Package with unique wheels and magnetic gray accents.

One in every three buyers chooses the FX4 Off-Road Package, which includes electronic locking as well as a Terrain Management System that features Trail Control. On top of that, more than half are going for the Trailer Tow option with a Class IV trailer hitch receiver and 4/7-pin harness.

With deliveries expected to begin later on this year, you can order the FX2 off-road package at dealers right now for $595, before taxes. The package will also be available for any trim of the 2020 Ford Ranger.
