Today’s trucks only appear to be climbing in price. But the 2022 Ford Maverick proves that you don’t have to break the bank in order to be a good pickup truck. This compact truck has a starting price of just $19,995, which makes it one of the most affordable new trucks on the market. But with three different trim levels and a range of optional add-ons, determining the price of the Maverick can be a difficult task. So, how much can you expect to spend on this small truck with the hybrid powertrain?

How expensive is the Ford Maverick?

The 2022 Ford Maverick comes with a standard hybrid engine. Which is a first for a small truck.

The Ford Maverick has an MSRP of under $20,000, depending on options. With this price, buyers get a hybrid engine and front-wheel drive. The 2.5-liter hybrid engine makes 191 horsepower and generates 155 pound-foot of torque. Which is ample power for a compact truck.

The hybrid powertrain is not just standard on the Ford Maverick XL. It is also the standard engine for the XLT and Lariat models. If you are shopping for a hybrid truck, this means you can get more features while still being able to retain the efficiency of a hybrid vehicle. The XLT trim has a starting price of $22,360 and the Lariat starts at $25,860.

What are the capabilities of the 2022 Maverick hybrid?

When outfitted with the 2.5-liter hybrid engine, the Ford Maverick is a small truck that can tow up to 2,000 pounds. It can also haul up to 1,500 lbs, which gives this pickup truck some serious utility. Even though it may not be as much as the upgraded engine, the 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid can still handle light towing duty and trips to the dump.

Additionally, the Ford Maverick hybrid has an estimated combined mpg rating of 37 mpg. Although, Car and Driver has noted that owners are not necessarily seeing that level of efficiency.

Do you need the turbocharged engine in the Maverick?

The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine does provide the 2022 Ford Maverick with more power, at 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. And while more power is always a nice perk, it may not be worth it for some. Especially if you do not need a pickup truck that has available all-wheel drive.

For those who just enjoy the driving experience that a truck can offer, the Maverick hybrid with the base engine can be more than enough. Because of its unibody construction, this small truck offers a mix of comfort and utility. With the base engine, buyers will also get the perks of a hybrid truck. Which is likely to be appreciated.

Is the 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid reliable?

While Consumer Reports has given the Maverick a predicted reliability rating of three out of five, these trucks have not been on the road long enough to prove long-term reliability. The 2022 Ford Maverick has already faced a recall alert due to assembly issues, but a recall is not necessarily an indicator of a vehicle with unreliable build quality.
