The 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is selling out
According to Transportation News, the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is almost sold out for the year. Ford expects for the Hybrid model to be fully subscribed by the beginning of November, then it will stop taking reservations until next summer.
Since Ford unveiled the Maverick in June, it received over 100,000 non-binding reservations, exceeding expectations. The Maverick Hybrid could be a success because it’s aimed at entry-level buyers on a budget.
The truck has an MSRP of $19,995, making it pretty irresistible. In September, Ford sold about 506 Maverick models, starting its first month on sale with a boom.
What’s so great about the Maverick Hybrid?
The 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is already surpassing expectations. It was expected to get up to 40 mpg in the city. However, it actually achieves an EPA-estimated 42 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 37 mpg combined.
With the Maverick Hybrid, you could get an EPA-estimated range of over 500 miles on a single 13.8-gallon tank. Hybrids do better in the city because stop-and-go traffic recharges the battery via regenerative braking.
Jim Baumbick, Ford Vice President of Product Line Management, shared that one of the most significant levels of cost of ownership and affordability is fuel. While 40 is a great number, 42 is even better.
The tiny but mighty Maverick can get things done. The Hybrid model offers a 1,500 lbs payload capacity and can tow up to 2,000 lbs. The 2.5-liter inline-four engine and 94-kW electric motor combine to generate 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque.
Is the gas-powered Maverick better?
If you can’t get a 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid this year, the gas-powered models are still excellent options to consider. It may have a lower fuel economy, but it can be paired with all-wheel drive and the trailering package, unlike the hybrid.
With the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the Maverick provides 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This is quite the boost in power. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 4,000 lbs. This option is much better for pulling smaller campers and trailers.
The gas-powered Maverick gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway. Adding AWD reduces these figures to about 22 and 30, which isn’t bad at all.
An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard on each Maverick model. It comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. You can opt for SiriusXM satellite radio, an upgraded B&O stereo system, and a wireless phone charger.
Only standard automated emergency braking comes standard. You can add lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control.
While the benefits of the Maverick Hybrid include a cheaper price and better fuel economy, gas-powered models are still great options. They are faster and stronger. Plus, they can be equipped with AWD.
