Since its release, Ford’s small truck has been immensely popular. In fact, the 2022 Ford Maverick has been so popular that you have to jump through hoops in order to buy one. But, the current Maverick may not offer one of the best features that Ford has apparently been exploring. Earlier this year, apparently the Blue Oval filed a patent to give its trucks a ventilated bed. And that would be a game-changer in terms of camping and adventuring with this compact pickup.

Does the 2022 Ford Maverick have a ventilated bed?

Right now, this small truck does not have a climate-controlled bed, but that could change. According to Muscle Cars & Truck, Ford filed a patent to give its pickup trucks an exciting bed feature. The ventilated bed could be offered to both body-on-frame trucks and unibody pickups like the Ford Maverick.

A climate-controlled bed would be a significant feature for those who like to camp in their truck. And it would eliminate the need to look to the aftermarket community to keep the bed of your truck cold. Plus if you’re hauling things like groceries or other temperature-sensitive items, you would not need to worry about things getting too hot.

Is the 2022 Maverick good for camping?

In terms of camping and adventuring, Ford’s small truck can handle quite a bit. The 2022 Maverick has available all-wheel drive and even offers an optional off-road package. The FX4 Off-Road package adds a number of rugged features, including an improved suspension.

Another notable feature is the package’s improved cooling capabilities. This should help the Ford Maverick when it comes to handling rough situations. It is worth mentioning that the FX4 package is only available to the XLT and Lariat trims. You must also opt for AWD and the more powerful engine. To some, that may decrease the value proposition of this compact pickup.

If Ford does choose to add a ventilated truck bed to the Maverick, it could be an even better candidate for things like overlanding. Especially as some owners are adding campers to their small pickup trucks.

Can the Ford Maverick go off-road?

If you are shopping for a small, off-road truck, the 2022 Maverick is ready. Through its available AWD system and rugged chops, this pickup shows you don’t have to be big to be great. That said, the Ford Maverick will not be as good off-road as some other vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler.

If you are just looking for a city truck, the Maverick excels at that as well. You don’t have to get AWD, and you can just stick with the hybrid engine. And that helps this truck to be a more efficient vehicle.

But unfortunately, if you are interested in buying the 2022 Ford Maverick, you will likely need to wait. Ford has paused orders for this vehicle until August. That might not be such a bad thing though, especially if Ford actually delivers on a ventilated bed. The feature would put other small trucks on notice.
