Is the Ford F-150 in trouble? It might be as an overstock of trucks builds up on the dealership lots. On one hand, it’s good that America’s most popular truck has plenty of inventory. But on the other hand, are sales declining?

The Ford F-150 faces overstock

It might be a good time to buy a Ford F-150, Explorer, or Mustang. There’s a surplus of Ford trucks, SUVs, and cars building up all over the country.

Dealerships are slightly nervous as excess inventory builds up. It could mean there are finally more trucks to buy, but it could also mean sales are about to decline.

According to Pickup Truck Talk, Ford and Lincoln have had extremely high inventory levels for the past few months. But now 2024 model inventory is accelerating to record highs.

In September, Ford had a vehicle supply of about 112 days, putting it in ninth place among all brands. Then inventory increased to a 119-day supply in October, putting Ford in seventh place.

This is when Ford started feeling concerned. However, the problem continued to snowball as data from S&P Global Mobility indicates that Ford has the most inventory among all brands.

Ford had over 400,000 models on dealer lots at the beginning of November. This is over double the amount of inventory that Chevrolet has.

There were 1,579,309 2024 Ford models available at the start of November compared to only 1,448,814 vehicles from 2025. That’s a 130,495 difference.

Ram was facing a similar problem with tons of excess inventory. However, due to incentives and inventory management, Ram is now a trending leader.

The United States’ new vehicle inventory hit 3.06 million at the end of October. This is a 0.2% increase from September and the second month in a row that levels rose about three million.

This is the most inventory available since the pandemic began so it could be an easy time to find the perfect Ford F-150.
