As an electric truck, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning has built up quite the hype around it. It’s one of the first EV trucks from a mainstream manufacturer, and in a lot of ways, it’s one of the most practical ones currently in production. The Ford Lightning has been so popular, in fact, that the Blue Oval has struggled to keep up with demand.

Are Ford Lightnings hard to get?

If you’ve been interested in the electric truck from Ford, you might have noticed that it’s fairly difficult to actually buy one. Due to high demand, you actually can’t order a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning anymore. Simply put, there’s a lot of hype around this EV. And even if you think there’s no point to electric trucks, it’s hard to deny that fact.

In addition to the Blue Oval closing orders for regular folks, the brand is also working hard to supply the F-150 Lightning to commercial buyers who have placed orders. For some companies that operate a fleet of trucks, something like the Ford Lightning might make sense. And that is something that Ford is working to satisfy.

The F-150 Lightning has a lot to like about it

Instead of trying to be some kind of revolutionary product, the F-150 Lightning does follow a tried and true formula. Ford has been a successful truck manufacturer for some time, and the F-Series pickup is usually one of the best-selling vehicles in the United States. If you look at the Lightning, it might be electric, but it looks like a regular F-150 truck.

According to Top Speed, the maximum range of the F-150 Lightning is 320 miles. But the standard range is just 230 miles. If you are towing, you should probably expect a drop in how far you can drive. And that’s just something that comes with the territory.

One of the coolest things about this electric truck might be its ability to be turned into a mobile generator. If your house is set up for this feature and the power goes out, you can get power from your Ford truck. This isn’t the only EV that can do that, but it is still pretty cool to see put into practice.

When can you buy a Ford F-150 Lightning?

As it stands, you can’t just order a 2023 F-150 Lightning from Ford. The best route might be to contact your local dealership to see if there are any options out there. This EV has been popping up on some of the popular car auction sites, but don’t expect to pay sticker price.

Because of limited supply and popularity, the Ford Lightning is an easy product to add markups to. That means if you want one and you haven’t placed an order with Ford, you will likely be paying over MSRP. To some people, that might be worth it, but it could be a good idea to wait until the Lightning truck becomes more widely available.

Needless to say, I’ll be following the availability of this electric truck pretty closely. Especially as competitors like the Ram 1500 REV enter the market.
