There are a lot of great pickup trucks on the market, but if you want a used one you’re going to have to hunt for it. That’s because there’s a huge shortage of new pickup trucks on the market which is making used trucks scarce – and expensive. Still, if you can find a good deal on a used pickup truck, you’re in luck. So where should you start your search? iSeeCars made a list of the best full-size pickup trucks. Perhaps what stands out the most is the pickup truck that didn’t take number one. What keeps the Ford F-150 from being the best used pickup truck?

The Ford F-150 isn’t the best used pickup truck and that’s a surprise

The Ford F-150 is the best-selling pickup truck. In fact, it’s the best-selling vehicle and has been for decades. However, it isn’t the best used pickup truck that you can buy, and that’s a surprise. The Toyota Tundra takes the coveted number one spot as the best pickup truck, beating out the Ford F-150 by just a tenth of a point.

A used Ford F-150 has an overall quality score of 8.3 out of 10. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tundra’s quality score is 8.4. While the Toyota Tundra has a reliability score of 8.6, the Ford F-150’s is 8.5. The Tundra’s retained value score is much higher than the Ford F-150’s, at 8.6 to the F-150’s 7.7. One area where the F-150 shines is safety. It has a safety score of 8.7 to the Tundra’s 8.0.

You won’t save a lot of money buying a used F-150

iSeeCars says that you’ll pay $49,247 for a three-year old Ford F-150. A brand new 2022 F-150, on the other hand, costs only slightly more at $53,852. Is it worth saving $4,000 to buy a 2019 Ford F-150 instead of a 2022 model? That may depend on what you can find. It’s hard to find trucks right now and the truck you can find may be the best truck for you.

On the other hand, a brand new 2022 Toyota Tundra is actually cheaper than a three-year old Tundra. You’ll pay $48,155 for a 2022 Tundra while a 2019 Tundra will likely cost you somewhere around $50,050. If you can find a brand new Tundra, it just might be the way to go.

4 pickup trucks round up the list

Behind the Ford F-150 is the Chevy Silverado. It also has an overall quality score of 8.3 which has a reliability score of 8.5, a retained value rating of 7.7, and a safety score of 8.6. A used Chevy Silverado costs about $46,93. That’s just before the GMC Sierra which has an overall quality score of 8.2 with a reliability rating of 8.4, a retained value score of 7.8, and a safety score of 8.5. You’ll pay $55,865 for a three-year old Silverado.

The Ram 1500 comes next with a 7.9 quality score, reliability rating of 8.1, and a retained value score of 7.2. It also has a safety score of 8.4. The average cost of a used Ram truck costs $49,338. That’s just ahead of the last-place Nissan Titan, which will cost you $48,531. You’ll get an overall quality score of 7.9, a reliability rating of 8.5, a retained value score of 7.2, and a safety score of 8.0.

There may be a whole lot of great used pickup trucks on the market, but there are a few that stand out. While the Ford F-150 may not be the top truck, it’s still a great pick.
