The Bronco has quickly become one of the most popular SUVs in America. The Ford off-road SUV checks most boxes for people looking for a daily driver, an off-roader, and more. In addition, appealing features like a removable soft top make it irresistible. However, did you know there are alternatives other than the Jeep Wrangler that check many of the same boxes? Plus, it’s almost impossible to buy a 2022 Ford Bronco because of production problems. Here are two great Ford Bronco alternatives that aren’t a Jeep Wrangler.

Why do you need a Ford Bronco alternative?

If you’re in the market for a 2022 or 2023 Ford Bronco, good luck. Not only did the 2022 model year sell out instantly, but the automaker remains backed up on production. Moreover, many original reservation holders are still waiting for their new Bronco. As a result, preordering the 2023 Ford Bronco is next to impossible. They’re coming and going so quickly that most people don’t have a chance. If you’re upset about the lack of Bronco availability, there are a few other options. Don’t worry, we’re not going to recommend its most obvious competitor, the Jeep Wrangler.

Instead of a new off-road SUV from Ford, opt for something with similar capability. Although other midsize SUVs aren’t built for off-roading like the Wrangler and Bronco, there are off-road-oriented SUVs and trucks. In addition, removable soft tops aren’t a common feature, so you’ll have to get passed that. Furthermore, two options provide similar equipment and the ability to do some light off-roading.

The Toyota 4Runner is a great Bronco alternative

According to Autotrader, the 4Runner isn’t widely available either. However, some dealers have them in stock, which is more than we can say about the Bronco. Even if they’re overcharging for a Toyota 4Runner, it’s probably less than people are asking for a new Ford Bronco. Furthermore, the 4Runner is an excellent option regardless of trim level. It’s well-known for being a reliable SUV with serious off-road chops.

Next, those looking to upgrade their off-road-readiness have more options. For example, the TRD Pro has an off-road suspension, Fox dampers, TRD wheels, all-terrain tires, a special front skid plate, and a TRD roof rack. As the most expensive trim level, this 4Runner costs $54,135, which remains more affordable than what most Bronco buyers are forced to pay. Lower trims, like the TRD Off-Road, are still capable, offering drive settings for off-roading, a locking rear differential, an optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, and more.

The off-road Ford Ranger Tremor gets it done

Next, another Ford Bronco alternative comes from its own automaker. The Ford Ranger Tremor is a similarly-sized pickup truck with off-road capability. Although it’s a pickup, many midsize models drive and feel similar to midsize SUVs, just with an added cargo bed. Some might find the convenience of its truck-ness even better than the Bronco. It all depends on the buyer’s personal needs.

Although it isn’t a full-blown trim level, the Tremor package offers a well-equipped off-road Ranger. According to Edmunds, the Tremor package is available with XLT and Lariat trims. That means the starting price is $33,485 or $37,525. Adding the package adds a revised suspension, 0.8-inch of extra ground clearance, off-road Fox shocks, 32-inch all-terrain tires, auxiliary switches for user-specified accessories, side steps, additional recovery hooks, and underbody protection.

Ford Bronco alternatives that aren’t a Jeep Wrangler

In conclusion, the 2022 and 2023 Ford Bronco are some of the most exciting off-road vehicles available. Unfortunately, popularity and a poor ability to produce don’t mix. That’s why getting your hands on a new Bronco is nearly impossible. Replacing one with a Jeep Wrangler is the easy answer, but there are a few other options that are similarly capable and equipped. The Toyota 4Runner and Ford Ranger Tremor are the best Bronco alternatives that aren’t a Jeep Wrangler.
